Thomas's Story

Well lets see, I'm Thomas Serra Jr., Charter Class of 1973. I remember the good old days, mainly because I am and always will be a part of Our Schools History. " Remembering the Trott " (I know, I talk too much - lol) Sports (Baseball); I Hit First Ever Home Run Over the Fence / Diamond 1 in 1972 against my Prior Team Mates; " Cousino baseball " team. Jim Pega, I remember him well, respected too. I played as Jim's team mate for Cousino in 1970, transfered to Sterling in 1971. Jim was there " Ace Pitcher ". He could throw a fast ball like no one I ever saw ! Even myself when I hit the Home Run, I Swung late on his fast ball. Luckily for me it sailed over the Left Field Fence. You see, I bat left handed. That is how much I respect Jim Pega. I knew I had to start my Swing (Bat) before his release. Even then, I swung late. I'll always Remember the look & hand shakes from Cousino team mates (Infielders) as I Proudly made my Trott around the bases & when seeing my own team mates waiting for me at Home Plate all the more a memory. Those I remember; Bob Roczniak, Ken (Moe) Pendorf, Tony Misuraca, Tony Spada, Kevin Van Guilder, Ron Davenport, Leo Noekielski, Rick Drumb, Chuck Van Luben, Mike Palco, John Reichtgard and so many other. I remember there faces, just not names. I also need to say this as it has been somewhat bothersome for me in many a year. I want this to be known & to honestly set the record straight. Yes, I did Pitch the First Game ever for Sterling Heights Baseball back in 1972 and I also got my ass kicked - lol; lost this game for us too. The Book of Record will show in another game played / Pitched in that I Won this First Winning Game for a Sterling Heights High School in 1972, but this is not all true. I did Pitch in this Game & we did indeed Win it but I did not start this game nor should I ever have been put into it either. After the game itself in the Locker room I went up to the Pitcher ( Rick Drumb ) that started this game. I told him that he Deserved the credit in the Win of the game, he shook my hand & said thanks. I knew how badly he felt, I did too for him. For the record let it show that the First Game Won for Sterling Heights Stallions High School goes to none other than RICK DRUMB, I believe we won that game 7 to 3 or 7 to 4. For those who did & do not remember ; I went in to releif pitch for Rick in the third inning with 1 out, and 2 men on base. We had a 3 to 1 lead and to me Rick should have been left in to continue to pitch but he was taken out as our Coach (Paul Jacobs) had me warming up on the sidelines. (To me, I think Rick got nervous / seeing me warm up off to the side. I don't remember exactly how many were on base but I think he should have been left in the game. It was his Game. My record ; Highest Batting Ave. End of season in 1972 ; .314 / not a school record. Stolen Base's from 1970 / Cousino into Sterling in 1973 = 37 Bases ; never thrown out once. I realize some may not care to hear what I did but hey I'm just bringing back some good old memory's in me. Voice an Opinion, Im sure we'd all like to hear from many ( Smiles ). But, for most / we all somehow should try to find a way to come together. Even in these worst of times / less fortunate in some. I remember many from the day as far back as Robert Frost Ele...Expand for more
mentary ( In the 1960's ) and how about good old Melby Jr. High ? Cousino too & then Sterling High.
