T. Lane's Story

Life After working and living in Texas for 38 years, I moved away to Idaho for about 14 years. Then we moved to Utah. My oldest son, Jody, is self employed and has a home in Texas. My next son, Jake is in college at St. Edwards in Austin. My youngest son, Dallas, is a Junior in High School, worked this summer at Lagoon Amusement Park in Food Concessions (makes you want to rethink eating food at a concession stand). I am still doing design and drafting, since November 1973. Should have finished college, but could not pass up the opportunity with working for J. Gary Shaw, Architect in Cleburne, Texas. After working at Comanche Peak in Glen Rose, Texas for a long time...I got another drafting and design job at Monsanto in Soda Springs, Idaho...about the same time my good friend, co-worker and mentor James Walker passed away. I had not seen him for awhile and was shocked when I heard about his death. Especially since it was in Soda Springs, Idaho. But I was met with open arms to the Doug Robinson family and Jack Harwell. When the project for Monsanto was completed, I took a job at the SSC in Dallas for Parsons/Brinkerhoff. When it was shut down, I took my next job for the Benham Group in OKC. But Monsanto would soon call needing me back for more projects. Then, in 2006, I accepted a position with Williams Gas Pipeline in Salt Lake City. I get to travel and do many projects for Williams all around the NorthWest. My wife, Kathy, also works at Williams Gas Pipeline doing design and drafting. We work in separate departments, but share a commonality in our projects. In February of 2008, she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. After having a masectomy, she completed chemo/radiation treatments the week before Labor ...Expand for more
Day 2008. She is getting stronger every day and is back to work. We now live close to SLC, Utah in Bountiful. Many fruit trees were grown in the area before it got suburbanized. Our home is beautiful, overlooks the valley into Antelope Island. Our goal at home is to decorate it with as much Texas memorabalia as possible. I am still a huge Dallas Cowboy fan...University of Texas fan...enjoy playing golf...miss playing softball...still play the guitar...not as much as I should be...enjoy riding the Big Dog...can't get enough of it...miss Texas...gonna retire there hopefully...don't ride the Schwinn as much as I use to...going to try to pick it up more in the coming years. Wished I could have kept up with all of my old friends back in Texas and in Idaho. I still call a few from time to time...but I can't help remembering all of the ones that I played softball with...sang and played guitars with...rode in Bike Rallies with...played golf with...went hunting and fishing with...played dominoes with...rode horses with. I have many wonderful memories of sharing my adventures with friends and family in the Lone Star State and Idaho. We have met quite a few people since moving to Utah. We also have family here and enjoy spending time with them. You get use to the snow...it's great to have (4) season's here...the fishing here is not as great as everyone makes it out to be...the hunting is far superior to what we have in Texas...played some unbelievable Golf Courses all over the NorthWest...softball here is not as good as it is in Texas...Sports here in general are not as good as it is in Texas...but there are sure alot of wide open spaces to ride horses (or the iron horse)...but it is still a damn long way from home.
