Thomas's Story
Life
At 45, I awaken every morning and I am glad to be alive. But most of all I am glad to be an American.
Workplace
Been at the job for 20 plus years. Started out as Rockwell International until Boeing bought out Rockwell's Defense business.
I am now a Systems Engineer for Boeing working on Inertial Navigation units that are deployed on the United States and United Kingdom's Fleet of Ballistic Missile Submarines or SSBN's.
Military
Following the dreaded Boot Camp, Company 149 in the summer of 1976, I attended a number of schools. I started at Submarine School New London Connecticaut. Following that cold winter, I attended Polaris Electronis "A" school immediately followed by Central Navigation Computer (CNC) Class "C" school.
I reported to my first submarine in Decemebr 1977, the USS George Bancroft (SSGN ...Expand for more
643 Blue). Those who served on her lovingly referred to her as the "Gomer B".
After 5 illustrious patrols on the Gomer B, I crossed over to the USS Tecumseh (SSNB 628 gold) where I put in three more patrols.
After completing 8 ardous strategic deployments, I decided on civilian life. Eight years later, missing the comaraderie, I joined the Us Naval Reserves. After being in various units, I settled in at Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 105 where I have been for the past ten years (I did a one-year tour as Command Senior Chief at NR Assault Craft Unit 5 out of Camp Pendleton).
I started out in the Reserves as an E6 and am now a CWO2. What a wonderful life - - - Should have stayed Active Duty.
Was mobilized for one year in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Noble Eagle.
Have a Great Navy Day!!!
