Thomas's Story

Life
After graduating from Marcellus Central School in New York, I went to Barrington College, in Rhode Island. Following graduation from Barrington I taught school in Syracuse, NY and after two years of teaching, went full-time to Syracuse U. for a Masters in Special Education.
Following SU's graduation, I moved my wife and son, Tom, to Ottawa, Canada, (my second son, Tim, was born shortly after) and worked in program development in the Ottawa Separate Schools in the areas of Learning Disabilities and The Emotionally Disturbed. Loved living in Ottawa, but after three years, an opportunity at home beckoned so I took my little family back to Syracuse where I taught, and went back to graduate school for administrative training.
I was an Elementary principal in Syracuse, for three years, then the Disrict's Director of Special Education for the next five. I had two more children, Laura and David, during that period.
In 1982, we relocated to the foothills of the Adirondacks; Glens Falls. I worked as Director of Special Education with the local four-county BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services). Over time, the position grew into Director of Instructional Services (to iclude Vocational, Alternative, Adult and Continuing Education Programs) then in 1993 we merged with another BOCES, making the new organizaton a 32 school district cooperative. inished out the next five years as Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services, and retired.
I was divorced in 1984 and have not remarried.
Upon retirement in 1997, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, and with early intervention and good monitoring, I am mildly hampered by it. However, a cure would be great! Update on the Parkinson's: On December 13, 2006, I had Bilateral Subthalamic Nucleus Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Surgery. It was highly successful.
I moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area in 1999, after doing a year of interim administrative work ... which defeated the purpose of retiring. In July of 2004, I relocated to Jefferson, Texas, a small city on the Big Cypress Bayou. East Texas is great!
My children, two of whom have followed me south, and lived 20 minutes from me in Florida, now live 20 hours from me. One lives near Boston and my only daughter lives in Durham, NC. All are college graduates and successful in their chosen fields. I have two Grandsons, and a granddaughter (6-10-08).
I was involved in Church music most of my life, directing choirs and singing. While in Florida, I volunteered doing Public Relations for my church (the Sunshine Cathedral) and enjoy the beach and travel in my spare time.
Now, in Texas, I own a completely restored 1852 house and guest house, in small city that boasts 50 - 60 B&B's and 40 - 50 antique shops. It is truly a beautiful place to live.
I would like to hear from classmates or work associates who remember me or from whom I've lost touch.
