Thomas's Story
Someone asked me how do I think I will be rembered by my classmates? I said darn good question. I was a multi level kid in those days pushing myself to overachieve to escape the tangles of living in a less desirable neighborhood and seeing people derailed by drugs, gangs, stealing to get ahed and ending up at the car wash on Jefferson street. UI decided in Greeley grade school my life would be diferent even hough I lackd the confidence at times to make it happen. I had the combo of Dick Blakey and Mrs Anderson t push and encourage me to make it through high school and express myself in the plays and the speech competitions. funny thing the father I went in school the higher my grades went ad the higfher my class rank was. Little known story I was nominated for National Honors Society by several teachers but was denied becuase my class rank was too low. It was Randy Wonzong that was given the task of explaining it to me because I had heard several teachers had submitted my name. A bad freshman year grade wise kept me from any of the academic awards. Anyway on to ISU where I guess I matured and ended up on the University Senate the main governance body of the school and on the Ex...Expand for more
ecutive Committee where I regularky interacted with Deans, theProvost and the President of the University. To my surprise I was given the Lincoln award on behalf of the University to the most outstanding Senior in the Class of 1975. I was speechless I never in a million years thought I could win an award like this one nor was that good of a student. Like I said the farther I went in school the better I got as a student. Anyway this helped propel me on to Law School at SIU in Carbondale and learned profesional school is ot a good mix with partying on the trip as we called it. I remember one haloween coming home after an all nightr in thelibrary working on a major preentaion to be given and there was my roomate painted up like a pumkin passed out on my couch. I just started laughing and woke him up and asaid lets go to Denny's as I knew Mar Lou's would be too crowded that time of the morning. So I will stop here for a time, a client is waiting, and my apologies to Mrs Richardson who truied her best to teach my to type ad bless her soul I vnever seemed to get the hang of it so bear with the typos and sentence structure lapses I do not have time right now to claen it up, maybe later!
