Tim's Story

Life I entered the USAF Academy three weeks after high school graduation. I graduated from the Academy with a Bachelor's Degree in 1978. I completed a Master's degree in International Relations and Political Science in 1992 plus other post graduate education and much military and DoD professional education during my career. I was a USAF officer and pilot from 1978-2006. I retired from active duty on June 1st, 2006 at the rank of lieutenant colonel. I had assignments to: Colorado, Ohio, Mississippi, Alabama, New Mexico, Florida, Nevada, Texas, Oklahoma, California, Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, Florida and New Jersey. I deployed to: Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. I have flown or deployed to over 60 different countries and I have been to every continent except Antartica. I flew over 20 different airplanes and helicopters during my career. I am a veteran of JUST CAUSE (the invasion of Panama), DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM (Gulf War I), SOUTHERN WATCH (Iraq no-fly zone), ENDURING FREEDOM (Afghanistan) and IRAQI FREEDOM (Iraq). I spent the last 32 years as an "officer and a gentleman", "leader of men" and all that good stuff! I have flown planes for the last 30 years...and still love it!!! I got married in 1978 right after graduation from USAF Academy, and am still very happily married 30+ years later. We have three boys, ages 26, 26 and 25, who are all now in the military--one in the USCG, one in the Army and one in the Air Force. We have three beautiful grandchildren and hope to see more in the future! We are enjoying being empty-nesters and look forward to spending our childr...Expand for more
en's inheritance! One unique thing is that I still own the same 1957 Chevy I had in high school! (Current as of 26 Jun 09). College USAF Academy. Nice place to be from, tough place to be at! Workplace Air Force pilot for 28 years--travelled the world. Did the wars, etc. Retired from USAF June 2006. Then worked in Kabul, Afghanistan, for Computer Sciences Corporation as the project director for a counternarcotics aviation program. Tough risky business in a country that produces 90% of the worlds opium crop. Tough job, but someone's got to do it! Came back from Afghanistan and am now an Aviation Advisor for Exxon Mobil Corporation and am living in the Dallas area. I travel extensively for Exxon (worldwide) and really enjoy it. We are building our dream home in The Dallas-Ft Worth area and hope to stay there for a while. We would love to have visitors--if you ever pass through Dallas please contact us. Home e-mail is "tsdcld" at "comcast.net". We'll probably be in the phone book for the city of Keller. (26 Jun 09). Military Three weeks after high school I was at the United States Air Force Academy. Thirty-two years later I retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel. I must have done something right and set a good example as all three of my sons entered and are currently serving in the military--one in the USCG, one in the Army, and one in the Air Force. I thought it was a great way of life and really enjoyed it. Right after I retired I took a job as a government contractor and worked in Kabul, Afghanistan. Yes, even after the military I still wore body armor and carried a weapon! If you were to cut me, I bleed red, white and blue!
