Valerie's Story
Life
I have taken a year off of teaching this year to work for the State Department of Education under the Title IID Technology in Education Federal Grant. I am a Technology Integration Specialist for Cochise and Santa Cruz Counties. I travel to schools assisting teachers as they shift their teaching practices so that technology is integrated in their content areas like math, science, social studies, etc. to support student learning.
It is a challenge as teachers begin to see the vision of technology as a tool and move towards project-based learning.
I travel a great deal as southern AZ is very rural. In a day I may drive 80 miles to the west in the morning and then head back 160 miles to the east - then home ...Expand for more
again at night. I am seeing so many areas of Arizona I would have otherwise never been through much less stopped at! My decision to live here is reinforced daily.
The best part of the job is meeting truly wonderful educators who are doing an incredible job and loving what they are doing.
I am able to do a lot of research - NCLB requires that everything we do is research based and tied to State Standards - and I feel this job has given me an opportunity to develop myself professionally. So far, the job is an incredible blessing!
