Tim's Story

Life Married for 48 years to a great St. Louis girl. Have 3 kids. Bo is an elementary principal in St. Louis with an Ed D in Ed. Admin. Allison and her husband own Skyhawks, Minnesota, in Minneapolis. The youngest is Catie, who is a Master Reading Interventionist in Kirkwood, MO. We have 8 grandchildren and are proud of all of them, and we plan on spoiling them rotten! I have retired four times and just seem to not get it right. Life is good in the Ricker Family. Hope it is too for you! After leaving Portage I finished my BSE in Elementary Education at Truman State University (1976) in Missouri. I started teaching in the Kansas City area then (1st grade, no less) and began my MA degree in Elementary Administration (graduated in '81). Worked in some rural districts in Missouri as a principal and then moved to St. Louis in 1986. Received my Education Specialist degree in '87 and Doctorate from SIU in '97. Stayed in St. Louis as a suburban large school district superintendent or central office superintendent for 20 years. I taught graduate classes in my spare time at SIU-E and Lindenwood University for almost ten years. With a doctorate in Instructional Process, I taught all of the methods and administration classes. I even did doctoral internships and research projects for grad students. I retired from Missouri in 2006 and moved to Chicago as a sma...Expand for more
ll elementary school district superintendent in Cook County (Lemont). Retired from there in 2012. For the last 10 years, I worked for the Missouri Dept. Of Elem. & Sec. Education supervising all the school districts in St. Louis. I am retiring again in June and will take a 1-year interim superintendent's job in the Rockwood School District in St. Louis County, the second largest district in Missouri and one of the best school districts in the country, according to Niche. Now, I am an executive coach for superintendents through our professional organization, and I teach doctoral students as an assistant professor at Maryville University in St. Louis. . I have traveled extensively and love to go to sporting events. I was a season ticket holder for the Cardinals (I did it to keep out of the dog house, and so I could see the Cubbies), Blues (yes, Hawks), and the Battlehawks (DA BEARS). We have also been going to spring training consistently for some 20 years. We cruise at least once a year and have to go to the ocean every winter. Road trips in between. We love to be very active. I run, and my wife Mary rides the bike. We love going to the YMCA at least 5 days a week. No pain, no gain!!! We plan on Europe trips, more cruising, and a few long road trips in the coming year. I wish everyone the best: "Once a Portage Indian, always a Portage Indian!”
