Tim's Story

COVINAS HIGH 50th REUNION...Please send you contact information to covinahigh1967 at gmail or timfstubbe at yahoo so you can be kept updated to the Oct 14th 2017 50th Reunion Celebration. FB has a forum called Year of the Colt 1967, Please send a request to join.. there are lots of Colts from the class there Life Graduated in 67', loved my 4 years as a Colt, and even today I savor the memories from those 4 years. And boy, did my life turn out differnet than I had imagined. I had wanted to work in Radio (ahhh high school dreams of glory). First thing out of high school I got a job... Remember that double drive in "Covina Drive'in" on Grand and Arrow Hwy? We I landed a job there, walking the field with my white shirt and bow tie poking my head in windows and saying "Heads above the seats, please". It as also the summer I found out more about sex than even I wanted to know...LOL.... Well at the end of that Summer of 67' I was about burnt out on a week of the same movie, stale popcorn, bandaids on the hotdogs and walking the field with that flashlight. I needed a change. So on the advise of my Mom, I went and applied with Pacific Telephone. I took the tests and they said "don't call us, we'll call you" . Three days later I was offered a job delivering Company Mail.. Not quite the DJ job I was looking for but for $86.50 a week (god that was alot of money then in my view), I took it.. In Jan of 1969, I got the big personal appearance request from Uncle Sam. Yes, Tim, your country needs you. So off to the Army I went. 2 years (and a lifetime later) I was discharged from the Army. A year in Viet-nam as a Sniper Team Leader in the 101st Airborne. A lifetimes of experience that changed my whole view on life was over. On ward and upward. I went back to Pacific Telephone as a Lineman. Climbing poles, pulling cable etc. After about a year, I took a leave of absence and signed up at Mt Sac. Here I was 22, a lifetime of experience behind me and...Expand for more
going to a Jr. College with wet behind the ears, clueless 18 year olds. I then realized College was not for me. So back to Work with Pacific Telephone. I got married in 1973 which lasted 18 years. 2 great boys, company Mergers, acquisitions and takeovers I now have 43 years with pacific telephone, pacbell, sbc and now att. I am a senior analyst and fly a computer keeping att computers up and running, and I get to do it from home. I have always been somewhat of a history freak and so when I was invited to join a living history reenacting group I jumped at the chance. I have a homepage send me a note and I'll let you know what it is. If you would like to see me dressed up in my various impressions. I guess the living history stuff has in a way completed my craving to work in radio (that ol dream) since its really a lot like street theater. I'm looking forward to retiring in 2 more years and moving out of state some place midwestish... Missouri, Tennesee,Arkansas... Update: Well I retired 12/31/2011 and started on completing my bucket list. First on Agenda was a motorcycle tour of the us. I rode from Rancho Cucamonga to Florida to Maine then Washington and home. 13500 miles in 10 weeks seeing all the places I'd only heard of. In 2013 I joined 1000s of VietNam Veterans in a motorcycle trip from Rancho Cucamonga to D.C called Run For The Wall. Now I have 2 grandkids to play with and that takes up my spare time. All in all Life has been good to me. Tim Stubbe . School What can I say about Covina High? It was a time of growth, fun, outrageous antics and SPIRIT. Always mostly got along t everyone and didn't have to many enemies. I remember Martin Connelly FFA and the insanity of it all. Breeding Daryl Lindeys rabbits while he was playing football. Bean Blasts - Private joke Getting the Boys Physc calls out of class because of a less than competent substitute. Building the Senior Quad Spirit Week.. That little 8mm movie I shot in 67.
