Tim's Story

Well, after graduating from CHS in '72, I went on to KC to get an A.A. (not good enough for an A.S.). Then on to the U. of I. graduating in '76 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. Came back to Centralia and did substitute teaching at CHS, CJHS, North Wamac for a year before working at the Centralia Fire Protection District until I got a teaching job at Centralia JH in 1978 teaching seventh and eight grade social studies. All during this time I was a super-duper bus driving dude for Wimberly Bus Service, you know, those big yellow things and older Greyhound-type coaches. I taught at CJHS until 1985 when I moved to Sandoval Junior/Senior High as an administrator after getting my Master's Degree at SIU-C. In 1981 I had married and moved to Nashville and became the first base coach (as well as van driver) on one of the area's hottest women's slow-pitch softball teams. Also in 1985 we were blessed with a son, Keith, who is now just starting med school. Unfortunately, Kathy succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1989 and it was just Keith and I. I moved back to Centralia Junior High in 1993 as the assistant principal and Keith and I moved from Nashville to Centralia in January, 1995, to get Ke...Expand for more
ith closer as well getting me closer to work. In 1997, when Al Gore "invented" the Internet, there was a push to get a computer in every classroom and on the Internet. And it was at about the same time that schools started using their own people for technology versus paying outside firms, and I was able to move into the technology position for our school district where I've been for 11 years. Keith and I have made a point to take a vacation each summer which has been very special. I had thought this would come to an end when he graduated high school, but it continued threw college and even this year. I know it doesn't sound like a thrilling life, but it has been, sometimes a little too thrilling, but it has been ok. I guess I've been criticized for devoting most of my time to Keith, but I wouldn't have done it any other way, especially since I lost my mother when I was eight. And being single doesn't get you invited to a lot of things that are for couples, but can't do anything about that now. Unfortunately, this hasn't set well with the opposite sex and has come back to haunt me, so to speak, but that's okay, too, well, for the most part I suppose. Enough of the soapbox and "whining".
