Timothy's Story
Tim's schools include W. C. Mepham High School and the United States Coast Guard Academy. He Served in the Coast Guard from 1965 until retirement in 1991. While on active duty, he was based on the East and West Coasts as well as the Great Lakes. He performed a variety of operational and staff assignments including ocean station in the North Atlantic aboard a high endurance cutter. Later, he was stationed at Port Safety Station NY on Governors Island as a search & rescue (SAR) coordinator, pollution prevention officer and port safety & security officer. Then served on 3rd CG District staff in the Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Division. Next, he was assigned to the USCG/ American Association of Port Authorities Port Safety Industry Training Program in Seattle, WA. Following that, he was assigned to the 13th Coast Guard District Staff in Marine Safety Division in the Marine Environmental Protection Branch and Readiness Planning. He was designated as Project Officer for development of Standard Federal Region X Oil and Hazardous Substance Contingency Plan covering the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Subsequently, he was assigned to Marine Safety Office Puget Sound for service as senior SAR Coordinator and Port Operations Officer. He was selected as Project Officer for safety security operations related to arrival of the Navyâs first two intercontinental ballistic submarines (SSBNs) at USN Base Bangor, WA and later for safety/security of notable VIPs including Queen Elizabeth II aboard HMS BRITANNIA. He was then assigned to Marine Safety Office Buffalo, NY for duty as Executive Officer and alternate Captain of the Port. ce interdiction operation. He was later assigned to USCG headquarters for duty as Special Projects Officer. During this time, he served as Assistant to the Federal On-Scene Coordinator for the EXXON VALDEZ spill response operations in Western Alaska. He deployed again as Team Leader of the USCG International Mobile Training Teams in the Caribbean, South, Central and America.) Following retirement from active duty, he worked in international consulting included travel to Mid-East, Central America, Africa and Alaska). Eventually, he established and served as Project Manager for a private contractor which provided regulatory functions related to recreational boat manufacturing regulations. Following the terrorist attacks of 911, Tim returned to public service as Port Security Specialist with the USCG during the formation of the Department of Homeland Security to establish successful port security initiatives by creating networks of public and private sector security partners and stakeholders to conduct risk assessments, planning and training functions along the Canadian Border. After 11 years of Federal service, he retired. He is currently serving as: President of WNY Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America; General Chair of the WNY Armed Forces Week Committee, Chair of the Niagara County Local Emergency Planning Committee; Chair of the Town of Tonawanda Hazard management Advisory Council. His proudest achievement was to meet and marrying his wife, Ingrid, a Registered Nurse, who has borne him three wonderful, successful sons. All of his sons have served honorably as officers in the Armed Forces of the United States. One served two tours in Iraq. Each of his sons has advanced this education by earning masters degrees as well as amassing official certifications in pursuit of their careers and goals.
