Timothy's Story
After High School, I worked for Kinney Shoes as an Assistant Manager and was in their Manager Training program. In 1978, I got sick of smelly feet and decided to go to college. I went to Baptist Bible College until 1982. Some of the best years of my life. I met a lot of good friends, whom I would love to keep in touch with, but haven't. I met my wife, she was from Republic, MO and we were married during my Senior Year of college in 1982.
After college I started working for Foot Locker, more smelly feet. I quickly became a Manager and was very successful during my 15 year career with them. Again, I met a lot of good friends and would love to still hear from them.
I had 2 kids while working with Foot Locker, Timmy was born in 1986 and Amanda was born in 1989. Having kids made me realize what we are all here for. To share what God has given to us and accept His great Love. Retail is not a job for a family person.
I decided in 1999 that there had to be something else, better for me and my family. My parents had moved to Florida some years before and purchased 10 acres of land to live on. They offered us a part of the land to build our house on. So we packed up and moved away from Pennsylvania. I have always wanted to live there and have the chance to work at Disney.
In 2000 I did get a job at Walt Disney World in the Magic Kingdo...Expand for more
m. I started out at the bottom but contacted the right people and was promoted to Guest Service Manager withing 3 months of starting there. I loved my job. What a better background to look at everyday. I literally walked the grounds of The Magic Kingdom everyday.
In March of 2004, I was playing basketball at home and my back started hurting badly. The next day at work, I lifted a money tray and felt a twinge in my back. I could not stand upright and my left leg was in bad pain with every step that I took. I was put on Medical Leave and had my first of what is now five surgeries on my lower back.
It has been a painful 5 years now, but my last surgery has given me more movement and less pain. I can now walk around without a back brace and a cain. Although, I will never be able to stand for a long period of time. I have gotten some of my life back. Playing sports, bowling, golfing are a part of my past now. I now just use my Wii system to do all of those.
My kids are grown and both attending the University of South Florida in Tampa. I am very proud of them and hope that they will be able to meet people that will have a positive influence on their lives. We have all had too many of those so called friends that have lead us in the wrong direction. Let us all kick them to the curb and find those who will make us all better people.
