Timothy's Story
Life
After graduation from East, I enlisted in the Marine Corps, training in San Onofre, CA as an Anti-tank Assaultman. There I learned to surf. I spent most of my duty as a military policeman for Barbers Point Naval Air Station, Oahu, HI. I spent four years surfing and scuba diving on your tax dollars! From 1986 to 1988 I returned to M'woky, wis-CAHN-sen to be a student of Mathematics at UW-Milwaukee. Finding Milwaukee to be a grey, flat land of hopeless blue collar automatons, I escaped as far as Madison, in 1991 earning my Bachelor of Science in Astrophysics.
From 1992 to 1996, I wrote software for the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Socorro, NM. In June 1995, I met and instantly fell in love with Caroline, the observatory librarian. We couldn't take living in no-man's land anymore and packed off to Beverly - Hills, that is, California. Caroline got a sweet job as the Caltech astrophysics librarian. I took a job as a C++ Software Engineer for an internet startup in Pasadena, CA. Stock options couldn't...Expand for more
keep me happy so on Nov 22, 1997 I married Caroline Susan Mary Smith of Cincinnati, OH. I left enterworks.com in late 1997 and returned to government science, taking a job at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Well, the Iraq war put an end to NASA funding so I moved on to engineering avionics for the Airbus A380. That got boring quick. In 2007 I was recruited to do something REALLY COOL. Life's Lesson:
I spent way too much time restoring a 100 year old Craftsman house in Pasadena, CA. I tried to do everything to a high standard all by myself and it still took a whole year to sell the money pit. I could have saved the effort. Apparently people don't care what kind of wood was used in the cabinets and that I needed months to rub on seven layers of tung oil. The new owners hammered nails into it so that they could hang up their Xmas stockings.
P.S. Ask me about the Central American people we call the Mayans so that I can tell you about all the crazy ruins I have seen.
