Timothy's Story
After graduating from Mendel, I attended the University of New Mexico on a football scholarship. I stayed and played 4 years which was unusual in those days. I think there were 3 seniors left over from my freshman team. Freshmen were not eligible to play for the varsity in those days. Thank goodness.
I graduated from UNM with a BA in Education and English and returned to Chicago. I taught and coached in the Chicago public schools for 5 ý years. I was fortunate to coach some fabulous athletes like Keena Turner at CVS who won a number of Super Bowls with the SF 49ÿrs. Iÿm a trivia answer for people who have played and coached in Soldier Field. We returned to Albuquerque after missing the mountains, clean air and unclogged highways. My wife, Karen EWing, was born in Alb. and even though she enjoyed being a stewardess flying out of New York and Chicago, we both missed the Southwest.
I taught and coached in Alb. at Sandia HS. for 2 ý years until one of the sales managers at the Caterpillar dealership finally convinced me to come to work for him. Even though I coached H.S. track for awhile and had a couple of age group track teams, I never returned to teaching. It is a shame we donÿt invest more in our kids and teachers especially at an early age. We would probably have fewer social problems. ( enough with the social commentary ) I have 2 daughters. Patti graduated from UNM and lives in London as a corporate consultant for Booz Allen. She has 2 sons - Gabr...Expand for more
iel who will be 4 Dec 2012 and Sebastian who will be 2 Nov 2012. She has lived there for 10 years. We usually get to see her and the boys once or twice a year. It is a good excuse to travel to London and Europe but we miss her. Kelly graduated from Northwestern University and now lives in Huntington Beach and Venice CA and is a journalist and a graphic designer for a weekly magazine and is also married.
I worked for the CAT dealer in New Mexico, Rust Tractor Co, for 20 years mostly as a sales manager. In 1999 I left to be the Vice President of Sales for the CAT dealer in Kansas City. For a variety of reasons I left Dean Machinery after almost 5 years to return to Alb. My mother-in-law was beginning to need constant attention so the timing was good. She has since passed away.
Caterpillar called and asked if I would be interested in working for them and living in Alb. That was one of my easier decisions. I was a CRM consultant to dealers. The job with CAT involved an awful lot of traveling but it was fun to visit a variety of dealers throughout the country.
I am back working for the local CAT dealer in New Mexico, Wagner Equipment. I probably have a few more years of this before I call it quits.
My wife and I are active tennis players. We both have participated in national championships. I used to do a number of duathalons( biking and running ) but the old body has been broken too many times.
It has all been fun and I would not trade my Mendel years for anything.
