Timothy's Story
After graduating in 1990, I'd landed a fantastic job in IT (literally a few weeks later), downtown and spent several years there. It was an experience I have never forgotten.
Cutting Edge virtual reality machines, and meeting the who's who of Hollywood during those years. I left in 1993, and began working as a Network Architect, and spent an ungodly amount of time doing it. In 1997, I started to travel.
I spent a considerable amount of time in Germany initially, living with a friend and working some small IT jobs while I was there for extra cash. While I stayed there, I traveled to Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Switzerland and more. I'd decided in the year 1997 that I was going to do things, even lunatic things, because I wanted to live a good life and if I were to marry and have children - I would have stories to share.
So off I went to fill up some passports... I watched the moon pass behind the Materhorn, while on a train in the Alps. I bungee jumped into a Swiss gorge at 4am with people I'd only met a few hours before. I spent several quality days at the Oktoberfest in Munich with half a million drunk Germans. I walked (and hitched a few rides here and there) from Madrid to Frankfurt. I spent time in the Louve, the Coliseum, walked the Savoy, swam in a few oceans, crawled through a dozen castles, visited Heidelburg, Strasburg, Berlin, Prague, Rome, London, Paris, Madrid, Nice, Genoa, Turin, Basil, Frankfurt, Geneva, Zurich, Amsterdam, and more in Europe...
However, it was in the fall of 1999 that I met my future wife, quite by accident, and online! I flew to Beirut, Lebanon in the Middle East in December of 1999 to meet her, and then to marry her a mere 3 weeks later...Expand for more
in January 2000. It was a risky decision (both for her as well as myself), but I have not regretted a single day. With my beautiful new traveling companion, we went to places like Cyprus, Syria, Jordan, the Netherlands, and as our family grew - the traveling began to slow down. Our first born, Mary, arrived in 2001, and was followed by a son, Declan in 2004, and finally by another daughter, Yasmina in 2006.
We have been married for 21 years now, and our 3 children are mostly grown now. The oldest is now in her second year at Loyola University and the others are both at Downers South All three are so much more than I ever was, and this makes me so proud. For myself, I decided to return to University and get out of the world of IT Networking.
I completed my own Bachelors in Education in 2012, and my Masters in 2014. I am now a Senior Business Analyst working in the Chicago area for a consultant firm for the Department of Aviation at O'Hare.
In 2019, my son made a dream that I and my best friend had, come true. Although Jon passed away in 2002, I brought his memory along with me to that beautiful country. In June of that year, Declan and I spent 16 days in Japan, hitting 6 cities up and down the eastern coast of the country; Something I had wished beyond wishing about since the early 1980's.
The road of life has been rough, but with so many wonders and beautiful things to behold, that in the end... those rough patches were merely small potholes. I have lived a good life these many years, but I do often think of the people I knew, and the school that was our home for some of the most formative years of our lives. I still see it every day and smile at the memories I cherish from that time.
