Tina's Story

I married the love of my life 28 years ago. I have 2 children, 25 and 19. We still live in Powder Springs, in the Lost Mountain area. I am currently in school getting a political science degree and will start in August, 2010, to obtain an R.N. degree. I recently had surgery that has caused me to have a long recovery period and can't do the things I want to be doing right now. I love seeing former classmates. Most are grandparents now which is hard to believe. I have such fond memories of my days at McEachern. Thanks to whomever set up the alumni breakfast. I'm advertising it on facebook too. Hope everyone will stop and take the time to get back together with everyone. My first child, Savannah, was born with cerebral palsy and lives with us. My son just turned 19 and thinks he has the world by a string. He will be moving into his first apartment on january 8th. I look forward to seeing how long that will last. How many of you have gone through the same thing with your young adult children. I swear his brain is missing. I worked in the travel industry for a few years until 9/11 and the company folded. I also worked for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta for 4 years which was very rewarding. After that, about 6 years ago, I worked with an IT company for a gentlement that ran his company out of his home. After a while on unemployment, I decided to pursue something I should have done upon graduating from high school. I regret not going to college immediately. Being a non-traditional student, you miss out on a lot of the activities because the young ones look at you like you're the momma instead of the student. I won a scholarship to Shorter College last year, but wasn't able to use it because my surgery put me in ICU for 2 weeks, and an additional 7 weeks in the hospital. So I have to stay at Georgia Highlands College to finish my degree. Hopeful...Expand for more
ly by the end of this summer, 2010, I will have a degree in political science and when I get my nursing degree, I can start lobbying for health care issues. Due to my daughters disability, I have had a lot of struggles with her medical care. My mom and dad moved to Aragon Georgia to my dad's old home place about 12 years ago. My mom retired after almost 30 years with the board of education in Cobb County. My dad is semi-retired. His health isn't very good, but he refuses to stop. They live on a 45 acre farm with all the animals. They travel some. My dad loves to drive, so they travel sometimes out West just to visit a new state. My favorite place to be is in the mountains. We don't get to go very much because of the wheelchair. My husband loves beaches and lighthouses. My dream was for us to be able to visit as many lighthouses as we could, but that will be on hold for a while. We also love baseball - Go Braves! We've been fortunate enough to see some of the major league ballparks in America. My husband says he'll never retire, he'll just fall over when his battery runs dry. I tell him we are going to visit some of those places no matter what. My favorite place to visit is NY. We made a Christmas visit there about 5 years ago and loved it. My husband and children didn't care too much for it, but I could live there in a heartbeat. I love the apartments, we saw the Rockets, the pizza places, and sadly we saw the big hole with the twin towers stood before the 9/11 attack. I also like visiting California. We have good friends who moved there several years ago so we get to visit every now and then. Until I finish my school, I am unable to vacation anywhere. I still would like to visit Chicago, Seattle, and any other major city in the USA. My daughter loves to fly - but only first class. She loves getting the drinks, the white wine is her favorite.
