Tisha's Story
Me and my son, Taylor, who is 18 years old now, live in Aline, Oklahoma. It is a little town with a population of less than 300 people living here. We really enjoy the peace and quiet here. We moved here back in 2000 not long after my dad passed away. Then my mom passed away back in 2001. I really miss both of my parents and I know that anyone who has lost either one parent or both knows what I am talking about. When we first moved to Oklahoma, I worked as a caregiver and I also prepare income tax every tax season. I am now disabled but I do whatever I can. And Taylor helps me out a lot with the things that I cannot do. Back in May of 2003, I was on my way home from work and had some car trouble and pulled over onto the shoulder of the road and was involved in Pedestrian/Vehicle Accident. Me, being the pedestrian, of course. I was under the hood of my car so I never even saw it coming which I have been told, was a good thing. oken my pelvis on both sides, my right hip, my left ankle, toe and fibula, had a midline fracture and cracked both clavicles and also have nerve damage in my left leg. I was bedridden for 3 months and then had to use a wheelchair and then a walker and then onto a cane after a while. I still have to use my cane sometimes but I will be like this for the rest of my life, so my doctor says. But hey, you just have to do whatever you can. I think that eventually Taylor and me will move back to Louisiana but I love the peace and quiet that I have found here. We have been back home to visit and it is so fast paced there now that I am not in any hurry to move back. But it is still our home and always will be. Taylor and me live in a mobile home that sits on four lots here. We have 3 dogs who are part of our family. And we just try to lead a good and peaceful life here.
