Tom's Story
Life
I am married, have 1 biological son, Tucker and an adopted son, Austin. I am openly gay (left the closet not long after graduation and a stint in the Army and Air Force). My spouse is Glenn and we had a Vermont Civil Union on Aug 11, 2000 (we will be together 8 years on Dec 15, having just passed our 7 year civil anniversary). We are foster parents (although right now we are taking a much needed break). We own an older home on a 1/2 acre of land up in Havre de Grace, MD...less then a mile from the bay where our family enjoys kayaking during the spring and summer and shop like crazy at the small, family owned stores during the fall and winter (lots and lots or antiques, gang! Come on up....it's a small town atmosphere with wonderful townspeople!!). We have a 1 year old boxer named Brandi, who is just a sweetheart!
I have a ton of hobbies and am always adding on new ones. I do water color painting (have sold a few), karaoke, picture touch-ups, etc. Recently, I started a new hobby "redo-ing" Barbie dolls into faeries (yeah yeah - gay guy doing faeries - hush up! lol). It gets pretty involved, but the techniques are easy...you just need a LOT of patience. Another "newer" hobby is making jewelry (just getting started). We have an idea for a jewelry business, so we will see ...Expand for more
how that turns out. Ah, and both Glenn and I are World of Warcraft "junkies". Let me know if you play...would love to meet up on the server sometime! Lets see...what else? In 1997, I broke my C2 and fractured all my neck bones to the C7, courtesy of a drunk driver. He got off and I ended up with a nerve disease called RSD/CRPS (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy/Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). So, I am pretty much not able to work outside the home (Good thing the "hubby" has a decent job LOL). Not much else to tell here. I would absolutely love to here from you guys.
School
I was too busy trying to stay in the closet to have a crush. Let's face it, back then, worse then today, kids were pretty cruel with calling people an "f" and a "q". I actually talked a fellow school mate out of committing suicide because of that cruelty. Anyway, I tried to stay under the radar.
My inspiration came from Ms. McManus and from my 5th grade teacher, Ms. Steck (Odenton Elem).
Frankly, I don't have a ton of "funny, happy or crazy" moments in high school. I just wanted to get through it and out of Anne Arundel County.
Military
I served in both the Air Force and the Army. While in the Army, I was stationed at Ft Carson, Colorado. Someday, I want to return there and retire in the mountains.
