Tom's Story
Life
I've been here and there across the country, and around the world. Married twice; the first time to a wonderful girl, the second time to a wonderful lady and dear friend. Now, after 5 careers, I'm retired in Escondido. Life has been a really good job. I remember most of it.
School
I Started school in Linda Vista, and attended up into the 6th grade. In January 1961, I enrolled at Silver Lake Grade School, in Kansas, finished the 6th grade there, and began 7th. I Finished the 7th Grade at Enterprise, Kansas, and then began 8th Grade in Peru, New York. Salina Jr. High School (South)back in Kansas was my next 8th grade stop, and then I finished the 8th Grade In Poway California.
Poway High School was an exciting, frustrating, loving, hurting, learning, wonderful lifetime packed into four years. We didn't learn everything in the classroom. A...Expand for more
nd only a little of the hurting was mine. I feel a kinship with all those who shared Poway High School with me during the 60s.
I'm glad I was there. I'm thankful to remember it. I'm grateful knowing we never need to do it again.
I began classes at Palomar College in 1967, and finished with an AA degree in 2000. It was an extended course of study?
Military
I enlisted with the Coast Guard just a half-step ahead of my Army Draft Notice in March of 1969. I stayed for 7 years, and then enlisted in the Army Reserve in Nebraska. After two years affiliation with them, I joined the Coast Guard Reserve, and finally retired from them in 1999. Of course, I look forward to receiving Reserve Retirement paychecks beginning in 2009.
I was well trained, and well suited for all that I was called to do. I never had a job I didn't like; military and civilian.
