Tom's Story
After graduating from SV, went to Temple U. in North Philly (commuted for two years, lived in West Philly for two years) and got a degree in Economics. Elaine Kapochus ('74) and I dated senior year and through all four years of college while she attended Millersville to get her teaching degree in elementary education. We married in '78 and moved to Champaign, Illinois where I was a grad student in the Econ department while she taught elementary school in rural Champaign county. Champaign is in the heart of some of the best farm ground in the world and I became interested in Ag and after leaving with my Master's in Econ, I took a job working for an agricultural cooperative called Growmark in Bloomington, Illinois. ...Expand for more
I left there to take a job in marketing research with Pioneer Hi-Bred, a seed company, in Des Moines, Iowa. I worked there for 17 years until DuPont purchased the company. I have been a soccer referee for about 20 years and eventually moved up to doing NCAA games for several years but don't do much reffing any more. I transferred to a division of DuPont in 2001 and moved to Delaware in 2007. Elaine and I have three children, Megan, Tom and Christine. Megan lives in Des Moines, Tom lives in Delaware (soon to be Connecticut) and Christine lives in VA and works in DC. Elaine and I love to travel and we try to go somewhere different each time we go. You catch me at the poker tables at Delaware Park on the weekend!
