Tom's Story

Notice: Please email me I'm too cheap to upgrade to look at the guest book. tgle103193 at aol I left for the navy right after graduation. I stayed till 1990 all but one year on the USS Vincennes CG-49 you may have heard of it. Yes I was there, yes the press told the story correctly, and no it was not a high point in my life. I was a gunners Mate 2nd class that day firing a 5" gun so at least I only killed combatants personally. Congress cancelled the GI bill in 1985 so I was left with no college money yippee! They did reinstate it but too late for me. I Joined the West Virginia Air National Guard in 1996 and have been working on a degree off and on as work would permit ever since. I'm only 53 hrs away now I should graduate about a month before I retire. After I left the Navy I tried business. When that didn't work I went to work for the IRS in a computer center, man did that suck! I joined the guard just to get out of there. That's where I learned welding and machining. These skills complimented my Navy cannon firing training well. Now not only can I blow up your car I can now put it back together. That training lead me into quality assurance and eventually into the management there of. I am now a regional quality assurance manager with Eldorado Stone. We make pretty rock for houses out of concrete. Now for the important stuff. In 2000 I married Karen Kelly and we now have 3 kids Hannah 6yrs in June smart...Expand for more
funny and frustrating, Emma 19mos smart speaks in grunts and squawks, her hearing fine we just seem to be meeting all her needs, and The boy as yet unnamed 3 days old we think Carter will be his name very cute. He is our last I am going to the vet to get fixed. Good thing too I've been lifting my leg on the couch lately. I met Karen while doing a sculpture that is now in the local Clarion Hotel. It was a publicly executed piece and she showed up the first day when we were gluing up the wood. She kept coming back to see how it was going and you know the rest. The piece paid peanuts but its ultimate payoff was priceless. I regret high school mostly because I just didn't get involved with anything or anybody. We moved to Silverton my sophomore year from Alaska (previously I live in AZ). We had lived in the bush where I was literally the only high school aged kid in a two room school house. I have one of those "Jerry Springer" families and was still dealing with 3 years in foster care the sudden disappearance of my mother (she came back she just needed space)and the death of my Dad. Retrospectively I needed a shrink and that distanced me from everyone even at home living with my Aunt and Uncle. So I missed out on friendships that could have been and sports and everything. Wish I could do it again so I could know some of you all the second time around. Enough Boo Hoo things are good now and regrets serve no one.
