Tom's Story
Life
Tom Hegna was born and raised in Glenwood, Minnesota. He attended North Dakota State University on a 4 year Army ROTC Scholarship. He graduated as a distinguished Military Graduate, with honors in 1983 earning 3 majors in 4 years Economics, Business Administration, and German. He served in a number of Military Intelligence assignments in West Germany and the United States including commanding a unit in the 7th Infantry Division (Light). He recently retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Prior to retiring, he was commander of the 301st Military Intelligence Battalion in Phoenix, Arizona, working counterterrorism operations in SE Asia. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. His awards and decorations include: The Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, the Navy Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the Overseas Ribbon and the Army Reserves Overseas Ribbon.

dents Conference. He is a recipient of the National Quality Award and National Sales Achievement Award. In 1992, he placed 430 policies. From the day he started, until he entered management, Tom never had a blank week. He received 6 Company Multiline Awards for Annuities, Mutual Funds, and Property and Casualty. Tom was the first representative to win all three Multiline Awards in the same year. In November, 1992, he became the National Marketing Manager for Variable Life Products and trained over 10,000 agents. In 1993, VUL sales soared from $28 million to $94 million. In February, 1994, Tom was named Agency Manager for the Chandler, Arizona agency. Tom qualified for the Managers Council (Top 5% Company wide). In 1995, he attained his CLU and ChFC designations from the American College. In July, 1996, he joined New York Life and was named Director of Annuity Sales for the West Central Zone. He has given over 2,000 Annuity Seminars across the country and agent annuity sales were over 3 Billion dollars in 2005. In March 2001, he was promoted to Assistant Vice President. He was promoted to Corporate Vice President in March 2003 and to Vice President in March of 2006. He currently resides in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Tom is married and has four children.
