Tom's Story
OK. Extremely condensed story following the alert on the fast-approaching KHS Class of 1971 reunion:
The KHS Class of 1971 is organizing its 40-year reunion. Set for August 26-28 at the Holiday Inn & Suites Clearwater Beach. Reservations, registration and event details are available through Reunions Unlimited. Type w w w : weplanreunions dot com into your browser (Memory Lane won't allow actual web addresses), then click through reunion info to find ours. Remember, you attended C. Leon King High School.
There's also an active Facebook page where updates are posted routinely. Search King High School Tampa, Florida 1971 40th Reunion.
Alert your classmates. Assume no one knows. We don't mind being reminded.
Be there or, well, you know the rest.
Reader's Digest story time:
Tom (UF '75) writes a column for the Tampa Tribune about the goings-on in Pasco County, where he attempts to "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable." His tbo.com blog, "The Jax Files," pursues the same goals without the geographic restrictions.
Tom married former Lionette and Krewe of Venus debutante Debbie Farr (KHS '73; USF '77) in the summer of 1978. They produced three offspring: California ginger-heads Katie ...Expand for more
(1985) and Elizabeth (1989) and Tampa-born Christopher (1999).
In February 1997, Katie was lost to a spectacular traffic crash involving a blind left turn, a drunk in a pickup truck, and a horribly blown red light. In the collision, Elizabeth suffered a crippling brain injury. She remains in our care at home in Tampa Palms, where Debbie and Tom settled on the weekend of Christopher's 5th (or was it 4th?) birthday.
The Jacksons spent most of the 1980s away from Tampa, in Washington D.C. and Sacramento, Calif., where Tom was a newspaper sports columnist and freelance magazine writer.
Tom plays golf (indifferently), reads (voraciously), fishes (occasionally), follows Florida Gators sports (ferociously), travels (enthusiastically) and would like to take up tennis again, but spends much of his energy attempting to come between Christopher and his expanding universe of electronic games.
Debbie and Tom keep a getaway cottage in Cashiers (CASH-ers), N.C., on the eastern slope of the Smoky Mountains. Debbie pretty much summers there, and I go as vacations allow. Otherwise, we're there whenever we can be. Alert us if you're ever up that way. We'll show you the neighborhood waterfall, and perhaps a black bear.
