Tom's Story
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, I graduated from St. Teresa's School. After that I spent a year at PMA and dropped out to attend WC Bryant HS. Enlisted in the USAF in March 64 before graduation and was trained as a medic. Served a tour at McGuire AFB, New Jersey before going overseas. I served in the Republic of the Phillipines with the 19th Casualty Staging Unit and went on to serve in Vietnam in 67 and 68 with the 12th USAF Hosp. Returned a bit worn like most and proceeded to live like I'd never see thirty. Was taken in by Local 638, Steamfitters in 1968 and taught a trade. Married a most remarkable woman in 71 (Denise) who gave us two fabulous children, Kelly and Thomas born in 74 and 78. Spent about five rough ...Expand for more
years estranged from my family, but with their help and that of the Vet Center, I was able to overcome multiple addictions and learned how to love and live a more normal existence than I had ever known. I left New York City in September 91 for Atlanta and brought the family here in 92. We struggled for some years as working people do, but have overcome the hard times and are quite happy here. Our children are grown and happy and productive and Denise is a cancer survivor and still the love of my life. I have recently retired from the Steamfitters after forty years and am pursuing a photographic career after juggling both for the past sixteen years. "What a long strange trip it's been". Life is good, the best to all. Tom K
