Tom's Story
Joined the Navy in '66. After finishing first in my class at tech school in '67, was requested to be crew member of USS New Jersey, a big bad battleship. I accepted. We sailed to 'Nam in '68, were overflown by a Russian bomber in the middle of the Pacific ocean, did a lot of naval gunnery, stopped the Tet invasion of '69, sailed through a typhoon, sank an island, saw dolphins body surfing the bow wave of the ship, and became a shellbac...Expand for more

I Had such a ball, I almost reenlisted.
Got out and went to work as a computer repairman in '70. Didn't like the career path so went back to college in
Iowa City. Graduated in '74 in Computer Science and went to work in Virginia in '75 (remember the recession of '74?). Became a computer programmer for various defense contractors and ended up working for the Pentagon for the next 31 years.
Retired in '06.
