Tom's Story
Hi MHS grads!
Just a quick note to pass along a few thoughts while waiting for decent weather and the start of the golf season.
Because, as time passes, memories are so important, I think of my early years, the friends and acquaintances from a very special time in my life. I've had the wonderful opportunity to visit with many of you, former classmates of MHS, in the past few years because I've been invited to attend reunions of the classes of '58 '59, '60 (mine), and '62. It was great seeing you all and thanks for the memories.
Because we all grew up in a small town, during, what I think, was a very special time (the '50's and '60's), we have a unique closeness that perhaps others do not enjoy.
We may not have "hung together" during those years but as the years pass, that doesn't seem to matter at all. We have something special in common that no one can take away...memories. Remember the "canteen" during lunch hour, sock hops, homecoming dances, that "special person" you were with in the hall, special teachers (the tough ones, now that I think about it, were the best) Stan Getchell, George Smith, Dorothy Deutsch, "Ace" Gilbertson, Mrs. Anderson and so many more that shaped our lives, summers on White Bear Lake, sailing and water skii...Expand for more
ng, the "Curve Drive In", our first car (mine and my twin brother Jim's, a '40 Chev..UGLY!!), Ray Rolling (I think of him a lot) and his warming house in the winter, being able to walk just about anywhere, East Shore Grocery, Ralph's, Hoffman's store, Vinny and Marge Guarnera's spaghetti, "The Front", Gus the barber and two female Doctors...Diane Dahl and Cherry B. Cedarleaf....ohmaGod guys, sports physicals, going to a WOMAN...but we got through it just fine...kinda.
As I look back on the past 65 years, these really were wonderful times.
I'm now living in Hudson, Wisconsin (boy, there are a lot of cheeseheads around here!), have a couple of kids (old) and a wonderful granddaughter (engaged) and step grandkids and even step GREAT grandkids (young).
Son Dan went through some trauma in Sept. '07 when he had to have a liver transplant as a result of a tainted blood transfusion after an accident almost 35 years ago. His donor...his stepson, Josh!! What an incredible gift. Both are doing wonderfully, back to work, and we're all thankful for that.
I'd love to hear from any of you that remember the good old days and share your thoughts (good and not so good).
Thanks for stopping by and don't be a stranger.
