Tom's Story

Life Where do I start? When I graduated from UE, I went to Broome for one semester. I received my draft notice on Jan. 2, 1971 and jumped into the Air Force before the Army could get me. I spent most of my time at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL working in an aerospace fuels lab. I then transfered to Westover AFB in Mass. and then received a hardship discharge because my father was dying of cancer. I went to work for Prudential Insurance Company on Nov. 26, 1973. Part of getting a hardship discharge is you have to have a job lined up before they let you out so I figured I'd take this one and if I didn't like it, I'd at least be home to look for another one. I'm still with Prudential selling insurance, investments and several other financial products. I have a private office in Endwell with two other agents and live just around the corner from there. I was married to a girl from high school in Dec. 1971, and had a daughter, Kristin, in June 1979. We were divorced in 1981. I remarried in May, 1985 to a woman from Wisconsin. She had two children from a previous marriage and we never had any together. We are now divorced and she moved to Florida and I stayed here in Endwell. My daughter is married, graduated from Ithaca College with a teaching degree in music and a masters degree in music performance from Stony Brook. She taught high school orchestra for three years on Long Island and moved back upstate for two years and is now...Expand for more
back on Long Island teaching orchestra. She is a gifted musician playing the bass and has been playing professionaly since the age of 15. She began playing with the BC Pops at that age and played with the Binghamton Philharmonic Symphony until moving back to Long Island. Her husband is also a music teacher with a doctorate degree. She is my only child and will always be my little girl. I am very active in the community doing volunteer work. I belong to the Endicott Rotary Club where I do a lot of fund raising events. I'm also a member of Union Volunteer Ambulance Squad as an ambulance driver and I'm also a member of the board of directors. I really enjoy doing these things because it helps people who need it the most...usually. I spend about 30 to 40 hours a month volunteering in different areas. I am into motorcycling big time and have a 2001 Honda Gold Wing 1800 which is a very large touring bike. A picture of me and the bike are in my profile. I kept my home when my wife and I separated. It's a large 4 bedroom brick ranch that I love. I have done a lot of work on it myself and love coming home to it. I run into a lot of old classmates that have also stayed in the area but would like to hear from some outside the area, or locally if we haven't run into each other in a while. Now for one last thing. Thanks to Classmates.com, Kathy Carey and I were married on July 10, 2010. She is also a 1970 alumni from U-E.
