Tom's Story
Life
I married Cindy Jessen (class of 75) on June 1, 1974. We had 2 sons, who are now grown. After repeatedly declaring I would never leave Vinton...I left Vinton, in 1996.
Cindy and I both worked in Cedar Rapids and the kids were gone at that point. So we pulled up stakes and moved to the big city to be closer to work.
For the past 14 years, we have spent our weekends and most of our vacation time at our summer home on the Mississippi River, near Guttenberg, Iowa.
In the winter we love to go to warmer climates, Key West being our primary vacation spot. We also have taken several cruises, looking for that perfect spot, but we keep coming back to Key West. We hope to be able to spend our winters in retirement down there.

ent types of cancer and it requires a lot of our time.
Cindy lost her left leg, just below the hip, to one of the cancers and another cancer (breast cancer) spread to her brain. The doctors told her 3 years ago that she would only live 3 to 6 months. I believe they were mistaken. She is a wonder!
Cindy is no longer working and spends her time at home enjoying each day. Her amazing outlook on life inspires everyone around her. IÃÂm not much of a believer in luck but I do consider myself lucky to have found Cindy.
I still keep my connections to Vinton, haircuts, car maintenance, dinner with friends, etc. I will always consider Vinton to be my home.
2015: To add to my story, we are now retired. Cindy is still doing well. We now live in Clearwater Beach for six months of the year and spend our summers in Guttenberg. Still having fun.
