Tom's Story
I moved to Tacoma in the fourth grade and attended Manitou Elementary School, Gray Junior High, and then Mount Tahoma, graduating in 1977. I completed three years at Eastern Washington University before transferring to Pacific Lutheran University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications (basically journalism).
I have worked for Centurylink for 20 years. The office closed in August 2014, but I was able to retire from the company. For the last three almost four years I have worked for Puget Sound Energy from our Tacoma office. My goal is to use my degree and write again.

My family loves to backpack --- just be in the mountains. During the winter I get out to snowshoe as much as possible. When it is not raining or too cold I can occasionally be found on my bicycle. I can often be found in the Olympics or Cascade mountains on day hikes. I play racquetball and tennis as much as possible. Life has been really good to me -- great family, twice climbed to Camp Muir on Mount Rainier (10,000-foot level, and had the opportunity to work as an editor of a community newspaper. I love being healthy enough to be active.
