Tom's Story

Hi all. Long time no see. I realize that I did not graduate with any of you, although I did call you my classmates from the 5th through the 8th grade. After that, I attended Maranatha Christian Academy in Milano, where I was allowed to proceed through my schooling at an accelerated rate, and finished a year early, graduating in 1985. Next, I joined the Army, and served for 8 years ( 4 active and 4 inactive) as an Electronic Warfare Intercept Tactical Systems repairman. In English, that means I fixed direction finders and jammers. I was cleared for a top secret security clearance, and served at Fort Dix New Jersey, Fort Devens Massachusetts, Yongsan Army Base Seoul South Korea, and Fort Hood Texas, Imade two trips to Death Valley California for war games, as well as a Re-For-Ger (return of forces to Germany) exercise for 3 months before leaving active duty. Because electronic repair in the civilian world was becoming obsolete, I trained myself to use AutoCAD, and became a Structural Steel Detailer for a firm in Houston. After 7 years of doing that, I went through a divorce when my then-spouse decided that she didn't wish to be married any longer. I guess no matter how hard you try to follow The Book, you can still lose. I retained custody of my two-year old son. The turmoil of the situation contributed to my losing my job in Houston, so I sought and found work for an engineering firm in Austin Texas, and worked there for 3 years until God allowed me to meet my wife, Laura online. She lived in east Tennessee. After a few hundred emails, followed by a few hundred hours on the phone, I flew to Tennessee to meet this angel, face to face. By th...Expand for more
en, I wouldn't have cared if she had two heads.....but she didn't. {:^) We met on Thanksgiving day 2000, and we were married on Memorial Day 2001. Since then we have had three children together. Our family consists of Yance 12, Lydia 4 1/2, Ethan 3 and Nathan 18 months. For the past 7 years, I have been living in Northeast Tennessee, and working at Powell Construction Company. I work in the 12-man Engineering Department. I help design coal conveying and processing systems. I do mechanical layout, steel design, concrete, re-bar and piping design. I also make trips to the field to hand-draw existing systems and plants slated for improvement, retrofit and/or replacement. The 12 man engineering department keeps about 150 iron workers busy supplied with steel and concrete in seven states. My family and I are active in our church, where we do special music and teach classes. I am also one of the worship leaders. Having just turned 40, I found myself wandering through memory lane, and decided to join classmates to see if any connections to the friends of my youth could be established. Through internet searching, I have managed to reconnect with several of my closest Army buddies, as well as some friends from shhool who were kind enough to remember me. I try to stay in touch with them often. Do you remember me, perhaps? I don't wear glasses anymore. Laser correction is the bomb. Drop me a line, or give me a call. My area code is 423 My prefix is 239 My suffix is 9220 My email is tandlpruett at embarqmail dot com. (you may need to translate that email address) If You've got a minute, drop me a line. I always respond. Thanx for reading. Tom Pruett
