Tom's Story
I hope people remember me as a shy yet friendly & compassionate person who was as kind & fair to everyone as possible. Also hope they remember my music, even temper, & sense of humor. I guess it wouldn't hurt if they remembered my tennis playing & "all natural white boy fro" as marks of distinction & signs of the 70s. I was quiet & rather conservative, but I was a very loyal & honest friend & I loved making people smile most of all.
I wanted to be a veterinarian, psychologist, or spanish teacher when I grew up. My family & friends thought those were good ideas. In fact, they were very supportive of all my decisions along the way. I took an early retirement from a 26-year job with the U.S. Government as a Spanish analyst and mid-level supervisor. Now I'm working in my home town of Salisbury at my own firm as an independent contractor, Spanish/ESL tutor, and Spanish interpreter/translator. I'm also a volunteer career counselor at Slaisbury University to give back a little to my alma mater.
Despite my full work schedule, I do put aside that valuable "fun time" as well. One ...Expand for more
of favorite ways to relax is to play guitar & sing, usually my own compositions. Music helps me express my inner thoughts & reach a more peaceful place. I also enjoy playing tennis, particularly if it's a well-fought & close match with friend(s). Sometimes even taking a long walk can also ease daily pressures. It all depends on my mood, but any activity that involves friendship & laughter usually does the trick almost immediately.
Frankly, I've lost track of a lot of people from High School days, but I'd love to catch up with any of them any time. I often think of the closest friends I made & wonder how they are doing. I have a lot of good memories of Wicomico Senior High School in my hometown of Salisbury, Maryland. My experiences there & the people I met (teachers & students/friends) were a huge influence on who I am today, & for that I'm grateful.
Life has given me a few grey hairs over time, & I am a bit more outspoken than I used to be, but I'm still the same Tom Truitt deep down. I wish everyone happiness & success in their endeavors, And contact me any time to catch up!
