Tom's Story
After St. Teresa's elementary in Woodside, Long Island, went to Cathedral Prep for High School and College. I stuck with the seminary until six months after graduating college in '68. Went out to the major seminary and decided I liked the idea of priestly vocation, but couldn't bring myself to believe in a god after two years of philosophy and six months of theology. Listening to Miles Davis' Kind of Blue one night, I decided I couldn't live a life without experiencing real life.
I had lived in the Village during the summer of love, 1967, directed some off-off-Broadway theatre and left the seminary with the intention of pursuing a career in directing. Travelled Europe during 1968.
Anyhow, got a Masters in Theatre from NYU, got married, drafted and moved to Denver, CO to work off my alternative service in a hospital there, where I took over their computer department and abandoned the theatre to feed my new ...Expand for more
baby by programming computers for the next forty years. Stayed married for ten years and two kids, before the road warrior life destroyed the marriage.
Currently living on a lake in the woods, south of Atlanta, with Wanda, a wonderful woman who's shared my life for thirty years and lets me be Pop to her four grandkids and my two. Founded a Healthcare Software company, designed and built many systems in labs and hospitals all over the South, gave it up to start a little restaurant with a courtyard entertainment venue (trying to create the community feeling of the Cathedral bench with the joy that folk music had provided so many years before), lost my ass and went back to computers.
Currently working with a prominent neuropsychologist to develop a memory tool for use in pre-Alzheimer's and other cognitively disabled individuals.
All in all, it's been a good run, but not one I want to see stop any time soon.
