Tom's Story

In 1970, I married my best friend Linda, after 4 years of dating. She has blessed me with 2 wonderful children. Our daughter Debbie is a school teacher in Bethlehem Pa. Our son TJ is now a Principal in Easton Pa. They have blessed us with 5 grandchildren aged 18 to 6. In 1973, I joined the Postal Service as a mailman, fulfilling a dream from early childhood. In 1986, I transferred to the Bethlehem post office, retiring in 2005. Upon retiring I was awarded membership in "The Million Mile Club". It was a national award for 35 years of safe driving with no accidents. I spend my days now doing Bible studies, enjoying the keyboard (nothing professional), and working in the kitchen. I volunteer at our food pantry where we distribute food to over 250 families. Assist in the May food drive by letter carriers in collecting food for the hungry. Each Wednesday night I prepare the beverages (non-alcoholic) for our Wednesday night dinners at Church. When needed, I will assist driving the elderly to Dr's apts. and/or shopping. One Sunday each month we go to a nursing home in Nazareth to bring Church to the patients. In 2014, I had surgery on both knees. Double meniscus tears in each knee. I can now add a total knee replacement to my list of surgeries. It was a birthday gift to myself on Dec.28,2015. In fact, between my wife & I, we've had a total of 6 surgeries in a 2 1/4 year time frame. Her last surgery was for lung cancer. We are learning not to ask God, why us Lord, but rather, what are you trying to teach us Lord. As the pains come, we say, but You suffered more for me. God has watched over us & blessed us tremendously over the years. Our granddaughter was born in 2005. At the time of birth, she weighed in at 1.4 lbs. & approx. 8" long. Though given marginal chance of surviving, there was calls from Hershey Med. Ctr. telling us to prepare for the worse. Not knowing what more we could do, we contacted friends & relatives from Fla. to Mass. to put our granddau...Expand for more
ghter's name on their Church's Prayer List, as well as any other Prayer List of their friends & relatives. Slowly, from early June to her late Sept.release date she grew stronger & stronger. It is extremely humbling "to know, that you know, that you know", that you were touched by the hand of God. At present, little Ella is not so little anymore (9-15). She is entering 4th grade & enjoying what other 10 year old's do. She enjoys playing with her friends as well as tap dancing & Hip Hop. As I reflect back on my years at St. Matthias, names like Sisters Liparda, Elayne Mary, Bertille, Francis Paula, Annunziata, Patricia, Mrs. Fertitta, come to mind. I did my fair share of giving these women of God premature gray hair. I never became a rocket scientist. I am not rich or famous. And no, I never met my boyhood "idol" Mickey Mantle either. In fact, I never excelled in any subject but one. That was their teaching & developing in me a deeply rooted faith in God. As big a troublemaker as I was back then, my highest grade was in Religion. Some 13-14 yrs. later, when my faith wavered & heading down a road of doom & gloom, I called out to God & Jesus. I said HELP!!! If you are real, I want to know you. Not religiously, not denominational y, not dates & figures, but a real, genuine, true relationship. Not only did He answer that cry, but He changed my life completely. So to my fellow classmates of '64, whom I remember quite fondly. Those listed here & to those who have not joined. I end this with the 2nd verse of a song I hold dearly to my heart. After all our hopes & dreams have come & gone. And our children sift thru all we've left behind. May the clues that they discover, And mem'ries they uncover, Become the light, that leads them to, The road we each must find. May all who come behind us find us faithful. I pray for you all collectively as each e-mail from Classmates arrives. May God continue to bless you, guide you, & to strengthen you in all that you do.
