Tom's Story
I am in Bixby, Oklahoma which is a burb of Tulsa. Diane and I have lived together since 1987. In 1982 I had moved back to Southport to ride the train into New York every day to start a New York based studio on the upper East side. I shot models for The Ford Model Agency for a financial base to springboard off into the Advertising Markets. After about 6 months of riding the train and hating it and the last thing I wanted was to live "in the city" I answered a job listing from my alumni job placement services from RIT and was flown out to Tulsa to be romanced by Hood,Hope & Asociates which at the time was Oklahomas largest Ad Agency with about 85 employees. They needed a staff photographer to shoot Oil rigs from helicopters,Product photography of Zebco Rods & Reels and my favorite, Boat catalogs!! They moved me out here in '82, promised me the world, and laid me off with 15 other people two years later. The economy went bust and they eventually went under. This really was a blessing in disquise as what I now had was a great diversified porfolio to call on all their old clients. Many of the art directors that got canned with me went...Expand for more
off on their own and I worked with them for all their new clients. I had two studios over the last 20 years and my last was my favorite. I shared space with another photographer, an art director and a lighting guy that did all the rock concerts in town. It is a huge space that has drive in capability and a loft-like appeal.I still use it occasionally for special shoots. The parties held there were the talk of the town. After a fall in 2003 I stopped taking the jobs that required hauling all my very heavy equipment to location, set it up, shoot, break it all down, then unload into the studio.I took a job managing a one hour lab and really enjoy it. I love working in Photoshop and restoring old photos and creating some really unique montages for my customers.I still take shooting assignments only if they pay enough to make it worth while to haul all that crap to the jobsite! As I go through all my old files I'm coming across my Warde photos and I had to start scanning and sharing before it gets to be too late!! Time is flying by so fast. If you are driving cross country please stop and say HI. We are on the way to Grand Canyon!! Tom.
