Tom's Story

After high school I joined the Navy and literally saw the world. Saw a lot of the Mediteranean countries, advisor in Viet Nam, lived 2 1/2 years in London and ended up in Washington, DC. While in DC I spent much of my time watching medical procedures at the Nat'l Health Hospital and Bethesda operation observation domes - saw many heart operations (cool), injury ops and an abortion. Thought I wanted to be a doctor, just a pipe dream of keeping up with my high school peer group. Went to college (pre-med) and taught Drafting in EP one year. Was accepted at UT Nursing school for a master program and should have gone, but I think it is okay now, that I did not. Tried being self employeed with a cabinet shop. Worked in the oil industr...Expand for more
y out of Midland then moved to Colorado where I have been self employeed and poor for 27 years. Oh yes, been married about 3 decades and have two first children - a son and a daughter 9 years apart. The daughter is getting ready to cost me money as she is graduating from HS and planning to go to CU in the fall. I was hoping to get a motorcycle this summer, but I can now see that is just a pipe dream. Guess by the time I can afford a bike, I'll be to old to hold it up, so I might as well just die. Depressing isn't it; spend all your life raising children to be proud of and then expire. The Circle of Life is then complete. I am so glad that I went into the military as I lived more in those few years than I have the rest of my life.
