Tom's Story

Hard to believe that nearly 50 years have gone by since graduating as a Katella Knight in 1969. After graduating I spent some time pursuing electronics at Fullerton JC got bored and quit. Went to work for Pacific Telephone and later AT&T stayed for 17 years working in LA, Anaheim, and the Bay Area. Moved to Hawaii in 1988 went to work for Kaiser Permanente stayed 4 years. Moved back to the Bay Area (Clayton) worked for Kaiser Permanente another 2 years, included travel all over the US. Took a job with Executone and moved to Connecticut for 2 years another US tour. Moved back to the Bay Area and started a consulting firm designed and installed video conferencing systems and call centers for a couple of clients. Consulting contracts took me and my wife/partner all over the world, Canada, England, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Japan it was fun. Then in 2000 when the tech crash happened we retired and built our dream house at Lake Shastina in Weed California. In 2002 we started construction on our house Gayle (my wife) designed it and I worked as a laborer every day for about 14 months. I can tell you 30 years in offices and airplanes doesn’t prepare your body for a construction job. We love our house and where we live. After the construction I was bored and got involved in our local community served on the Fire safe Council as president, on the board of the Community Services District (manages police, fire, w...Expand for more
ater & sewer for the community), president of the home owners association, chairman of the Lake Shastina Chili Feast Committee. Also, worked with local property owners on Klamath Basin water issues. Family, got married the first time in 1980 lasted 3 years. Married again in 1986, to my current wife. Thanks Gayle for the past 30+ years it’s been a blast. No kids, 17 nephews and nieces, I love favorite Uncle Status. When I left High School I had 3 objectives, photography, wood working and a kick ass stereo. Well I can honestly say I achieved success, I have received a number of local awards for my photography, I have made mountains of sawdust in my woodshop and a few pieces of furniture, the sound system in the shop is old school 1970’s amp 175 watts per channel and 1500 (or so) albums. Lead Zeppelin sounds so good on vinyl especially when you have 16 inch woofers and you can play it loud. Last year we purchased a truck and travel trailer, been wandering ever since. Soon were going on a trip up through Oregon, Idaho, Yellowstone, Jackson, Sturgis, Chicago, New Jersey and then probably home. I’m so happy to have found and joined this site, Thanks to Mike Vandewalker for organizing the Classyshots site and keeping the Knights of 68-69 together. I’ve read many Bio’s and memories are flooding back, best to you all see you soon. Unless circumstances beyond our control intervene I hope to see you all at the 2018 reunion.
