Tonda's Story

Life Hello to all, Since HS graduation I have pursued many areas of interest. Giving birth to nine children provoked growth in me more than any other life experience. My husband Doug (Madison Class of 1968) and I have relocated with his work in the furniture industry several times throughout our thirty years of marriage. Each child and each new location opened opportunities for education and ministry. Over the years, from Michigan to North Carolina, I not only home schooled many of our children but taught in public schools, served on numerous school development/advisory boards, and advocated, created and implemented programs for instructing and testing the special needs population. As a pro-life volunteer many doors in the healthcare industry were opened to me for counseling and educating women and their families. Needing a creative outlet, I opened Rooms for Living, my interior design business. I found the design industry to be quite "stuffy" yet capable of fulfilling my need to be a catalyst for change. At the thought of sending our youngest son off to college and with only the three youngest girls at home I closed my design business and moved the family to Miami! My passion to educatate women and to teach them to secure better healthcare options for themselves and their families has lead me to pu...Expand for more
rsue my degree in midwifery. Currently, I am a second semester senior student with nearly 50 catches and a professional educator with Labor of Love, Int. a non-profit organization. My responsibilities have once again opened the doors to the public school system, foster care programs, Girl Scouts, the juvenile justice system, and numerous other agencies where I deliver childbirth education, STD and family planning services to the working poor in our state. I will graduate in January (2008) and sit for the national board exam in February. Tenative plans take us to SC for an internship and then to the coast of SC where I hope to open my own birthing center. (Midwife/birth center births are quite the norm in the South and other parts of the US/World...just not in Ohio except with the Amish.) We have been blessed with five grandchildren and hopefully more as our other children finish their schooling and begin their careers and families. Our travels take us back to Ohio at least once a year to visit my parents who still live on Forest Drive. My mom and I just took a little trip down "memory lane" in July as we drove around the neighborhood adjacent to the high school. Not much has changed. Would love to hear from you. Please provide your email address or bio. Congrats to Becky E. on her recent marriage.
