Tony's Story
After graduating from PRHS, I attended SICC for three semesters then joined the Navy and was assigned to SEABEE Battalion 74 in Gulf Port, MS. After additional training in Biloxi, MS, and Camp LeJeune, NC (I ran into Gene Darconte at the movie theater), I was assigned to a small camp near Cam Lo village in Quang Tri Provence. I ran into another classmate (Tim Maroney) at Dong Ha airbase when transferring to Chu Lai in Quang Nam Provence. I returned to the States and separated from active duty in 1969. In 1970, I was accepted in the geology department at Brooklyn College, graduating in 1973. Niguel, CA (1978); Baton Rouge, LA (1982); Denver, CO (1983); Las Vegas, NV (Yucca Mountain and the Nevada Test Site, 1986); San Diego, CA (1991), and back to Florida for my final assignment (2002). I retired from the USGS in 2003 but continued to work part time for Cal State Sacramento. In 2004, Arlene and I began moving around Florida from Satellite Beach, to Little Torch Key (mile 28 from Key West), to Cape Coral, and finally to Melbourne, FL in 2007. In 2010, we moved back to southern Nevada to explore the West in our motor home. In 2011, we moved back to Melbourne where Arlene and I are selling residential real estate.
My hobbies: Still SCUBA dive; haven't sailed in a couple of years (my back is not cooperating); and mostly drive (but still tinker with) my last restoration project ('67 911S).
