Tony's Story
Life
After high school my father rescued me from a dead end job as a stock boy in the housewares department at the old Billy Blake's in Smithtown. He got me a job in his union with the local electric company, a LILCO sub contractor. I was drafted into the Army 5/68. Sent to Vietnam 10/68 to a little out of the way tropical paradise called Trang Bang, just out side of Cu Chi. I didn't stay very long, I was wounded a month later. I spent 3 months in various hospitals recovering before I wound up at Ft Meade MD. I worked in the data processing center there and became interested in computers. I didn't know it then, but that was the turning point in my life. I got out of the Army 5/70 and went back to work with the electric company. I met my future wife 8/70 at the OBI North in Smithtown (anyone remember the OBI?). We got married 7/72 and had one son Brian in 1982. n how to repair and install computer systems (back then they only had large main frame computers, no laptops). I worked for several companies till I landed in R&D Electrical Engineering with a company called RDI in 1984. I was laid off 2/01 after 17 years (BOO RDI). After 4 months on unemployment, a consulting job and a plant managers job for 5 weeks, I found a job at a company called UltraVolt in Bohemia here on Long Island. It was only about 10 minutes from my home. My wife Barbara passed away on 10/17/2005 after loosing a 2 1/2 year fight to brain cancer. I retired in February 2006. On July 20, 2013 I remarried Lori Weber.
