Tony's Story

Life I am married with three kids, two boys and a girl and four grandchildren. Life has been good to me; I met a wonderful woman, Barbara, when I moved to Florida and have been married for 43 years. I moved to Florida almost as soon as I graduated in July of 1958. I remained in the state ever since. I spent 40 years with one company, BellSouth, retiring in 1999. I was extremely fortunate during my career. I started as a mailboy and retired a Vice President. The company paid for my education, at night school, and I graduated with a BS in Business from Jacksonville University and a MBA from the University of Miami. I seldom got back to St. Louis, as most of my family moved away. However, recently I did visit a couple of my Uncles who remained. I did all of those things visitors are supposed to do; the zoo, the Arch, Six Flags etc. Brought two of my grandchildren; they loved it. We are thoroughly enjoying retirement. We do much traveling. During the past twenty years, we have been in 35 countries. We own a small store, the Wanderings, that specializes in international furniture, jewelry and crafts. It is a great to have the store during retirement. My daughter, Terri, runs it and I go up there when I want to cause mischief and have a little fun. We have had it for 14 years now. If I had to make money to live on from it, we would starve do death. We live in a golf club community in Tallahassee, Florida; so, I play a lot of golf. Never have gott...Expand for more
en any good at it, but it keeps we frustrated. I figure that is good; since I retired, other than my wife, there is little to moan about. Golf fills that gap. I never have desired going back to work. When I hear of others who get bored, I cant relate. I stay busy doing absolutely nothing productive. Once in a while I go off the deep end and volunteer at my church. After I do it, I always ask myself why. For years I was involved in Civic and Community affairs. After retirement, I dropped all of those responsibilities. We own a home on Lake Lure in North Carolina. We spend a couple of months a years up there. It is a beautiful place in the mountains. It was my wife and my dream to build there. Fortunately, we bought the lot over 25 years ago, when they were still affordable. Upon retirement, we built a home replacing the trailer that we had used for years. I recently made contact with an old friend, Nancy Rowbottom (Wilson) when I saw her name appear on the Classmates site. It has been fun communicating with her for the last couple of months. When we were in town, my wife and I had dinner with her. It was a real joy to be able to sit down with someone you knew almost forty years ago and hadn't seen in all of that time. We shared our Roosevelt memories. Unfortunately, the senior fog has set in and my memory is vague. If there is anyone out there that remembers me, drop me a line.
