Tony's Story

During High School, I met Sandra Varela who I ended up marrying and having two beautiful children -- Lynndsey & Ashley. Although we didn't last but 3 years married, I appreciate her role in my life providing me the opportunity to learn from mistakes and better myself as a human being, and be grateful for bringing two beautiful girls into the world. Wish her the very best. After my divorce from Sandy, I joined the Navy during Desert Storm. As soon as I got out of boot camp, I married Gayle (1991) and settled down in Mountain View/Sunnyvale during my enlistment. I got out of the Navy in 1995 and started working for ALZA Corporation, a pharmaceutical that was based out of Palo Alto, CA. Gayle and I moved to San Jose eventually where we began the foster-adoption process. Early 1999, we received a phone call from our social worker asking us if we'd like to come and see a little girl. We visited and immediately fell in love with our little Hannah. Just five (5) days after finalizing our little girl some 2 years later, we received a phone call from our social worker saying that Hannah's brother was born and was available, and if we'd like to consider seeing him. We agreed, and as soon as we saw him, we fell in love with him, too. We got him at 2 months old and that was that. We finalized another 2 years after that after their case was escalated to the State Supreme Court. In December 1999, my wife and I decided to move back to the San Joaquin Valley having been gone now some 8 plus years. I took a job at the Merced Superior Court and eventually became their Information Technologies Manager. I stayed there for over 5 years. We made our home in Merced during that time. t a job working for a telecommunications solutions provider up in Rocklin, CA as a project manager. That was an EXPERIENCE! Working for a private company in a high-paced environment like that trying to implement a new project management methodology where non existed before was brutal. During that time, I managed some major Voice-over-IP projects, learning a tremendous deal. I lasted only 7 months, however, before I thought my health was more important than the job (6 days a week, 12+ hour days). So we moved back to the Merced Area. I took a sabbatical taking some MUCH needed time off. About 6 months actually. By February of 2006, I felt it was time to get back to work and accepted a position as the Director of Information Services for Castle Family Health Centers in Atwater, CA. After a couple years there working for a very bad boss, I left that position for one at Golden Valley Health Centers in Merced, CA. Been working there ever since. I'm now their Sr. Network Administrator managing their entire network infrastructure for over 23 sites. Gayle and I divorced in 2008. We were apart for a couple years then decided to try again. Lasted another couple years before we realized we were better apart than together. I'm now single, enjoying my Hannah and David, now 16 and 14, week on week off. Still living in Merced, trying to bring my life to some measure of quiet normalcy. My two oldest daughters, Lynndsey and Ashley, now 29 and 27, live in Fresno. I have a grandson with Lynndsey. Both are married. Haven't seen them in a while, but they have gorgeous families. I enjoy the blessings God and His Son Jesus Christ have given me through the years. I am severely blessed. Take care, and God bless you. Tony
