Tonya's Story

Life I'm a nurse(RN),live in Stockbridge, married (not to James Giles) with no kids. I attend New Macedonia Church. I pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at Clayton State. I was in the Army Reserve for 8 years (glad that's over). I worked for the State of Georgia in accounting before I quit in 2002 to go back to school for my nursing degree. Currently work as an ICU nurse at Emory. Other than that, nothing much has changed. I still love sports, outspoken at times, independent, approachable...not as active in leadership as I used to be. I guess I'm working too much and focusing on home, but I'm sure I'll create time to be more involved. College I started at Alabama State Univ. Loved it! Financial aid made me leave after two years, but I made many friends and have many memories. I mostly hung out with Floridians from the bottom, the football players, and the Q's. I majored in Science and left with a 3.49 GPA. Went to the military then worked. Then went to Georgia State (95-96)& hated it. There were too many people. GPA went to 1.71. Worked, then went to Clayton College & State University. Became very active. Joined SGA as Student Services Chair and pushed no-smoking...Expand for more
policy, the first in CCSU's history. Joined Delta Sigma Theta and was very active/involved. I graduated Spring 04 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN) with a 3.08 GPA. Clayton is small, but beautiful & is growing. I partied/developed at ASU, cried at GSU, and grew/blossomed at CCSU! The only thing I would change would be the year I decided to go back to school. Military I started in the 1207th in Tuskegee right after they were changed from the 71st. I made many friends and had a good time, despite those who were power hungry and had their underwear in a bunch. Later, the 1207th moved to Ft. Benning and it went down hill from there. The more I came, the more I hated it. They could never get anything together. Always wanted you to do something for them to look good, but did absolutely nothing for you in return. I transferred to the 3297th to escape the BS before I lost it. It was a little better. They just had too many problems to work through and soldiers were lost in the shuffle. At both companies, I hung with Sgt. Anderson (Shelitha) and Sgt. Reed (Darren). They were my buddies outside of the military. My best times were in Tuskegee...talk about camaraderie!
