Tonya's Story
A little about me... born & raised in Ft. Pierce, Florida... got married to James in 1995, the best thing about our relationship, he's in the military, the worst thing about our relationship, he's in the military... I have to admit though, in spite of all the misery it caused, if I had it to do all over again I wouldn't change a thing... every time we transferred, it gave us the opportunity to travel all over the country, giving us the chance to see things most people can only see in magazines. It's not the first place I think of when I plan a vacation, but if you ever get the chance to visit the Pacific Northwest don't hesitate, I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
So along with Florida we lived in Oregon, Virginia and Washington, which is where I still live now... as much as I miss the Florida beaches, nothing could replace the mountains or the chance to see how pretty the snow is when it's falling gently from the sky... even before the divorce was final, I knew there was a chance I wouldn't be moving back to Florida... Which brings us to now... Chris & I are living in Everett, Washington, which is just outside Seattle. I just finished school to become a certified medical assistant. Considering how miserable high school was for me, I was delightfully surprised to find myself not only enjoying school, but I made the Dean's List, twice! Going to school during the divorce was tuff, but I soon realized it was a blessing in di...Expand for more
sguise... I was so busy with school I didn't have much time to think about anything else.
On top of all the school stuff, I'm also dealing with all the usual adjustments of being in a new relationship, regardless of the circumstances that brought me & Chris together, I couldn't be happier with the way things have turned out... we've even talked about getting married... for obvious reasons, bringing Chris home to meet my family was awkward enough, I didn't want to introduce him as my husband without meeting them first. Since he's never been there I couldn't wait to show him where this crazy redneck girl came from, there's no way to explain life growing up in Ft.Pierce. So around the same time I finished school, Chris's job had to shut down for a couple of weeks, so I decided it was the perfect time to take him home to meet all my friends & family, I figured if this didn't scare him off, nothing would... We had a much better time than I anticipated. Going home is always a welcome change, especially since I don't get to go that often. All the meet & greets went much better than I expected, the night Chris met my Dad was my favorite moment from the trip, I knew things are going good when Dad offers Chris some of his peach flavored White Lightning, a treat usaully saved for special occasions, like hanging out in White City Park or chillin' at the cove. The visit went by way to fast, which means the next trip will be twice as long.
