Tonya's Story

I hope that persons remember me as someone funny. I think alot of the time no matter what was going on in my life -humor got me through it...but considering my sense of humor- most of my peers more than likely thought of me as just weird or strange...sorry, guess I've always been different. I always wanted to be a costemtologist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were maybe wrong. I ended up being a very creative person and I'm in the TOTALLY WRONG JOB...at least I have been in past 25 years...I sit in a cubicle 8 hours a day...makes for a stressful and frustrating life...but I try to compensate and plus it pays the bills and takes good care of my family. I also always wanted to be famous. My parents were not very supportive. They used to tell me that talented persons were a dime a dozen and to move on to something more "practical"...so I gave up dreams of singing, dancing and acting.... (most of which I never even pursued in school for fear of rejection) and decided to pursue housewife status...or secretarial work (ugh!) Well I've done alot of things for work over the years but most of it consists of working for Mother Mayo...collecting the large dollars from insurance companies....and to offset that boring day job, I've been a DJ (karaoke) off and on for the past 20 or so years. I also love to write, however never been brave enough to submit anything to be published. I wasnt much of anybody at JM. I mentioned before about my moving away. Once I moved away only to return 2 years later.. I expected for everything to be the same as it was, but it wasnt...nor was anyone else. My old gang really wasnt all that excited that I was back...and that hurt. But I managed...and made some new friends....Wildness wasnt a thing in my years at JMHS -- I just wanted to get it over with so I could go back to Indiana where I felt wanted. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Gail Matz Stanley, because I always thought she'd be my forever friend. In my heart,of all the friends I've had and remembering back as far as being a little kid..... there are just a slight few that are huge in my heart. She is one of them. I felt like we were peanut butter and jelly...salt and pepper....oras Forrest Gump would say "peas and carrots . (or for some of you that just might get the jog your memory from John Adams hint... Sonny & Cher) If someone would have told me back in high school that I would have endured everthing that I have up until now I would have thought they were nuts. On my 3rd marriage and I have two children - very far apart in age. It has been like haveing two "only" children. My oldest who will be 23 in October has Asperger's Syndrome - which is under the "austism" spectrum. He has been such a blessing to me as well as heartache. To ...Expand for more
see things through his eyes is pretty awesome. He is extremely high functioning and I'm amazed at him so much of the time. He's living with friends and going to school here in Rochester. I struggle with wanting to still advocate for him but yet him spread his wings. Then I have my daughter - who is 10...just entering the tween stage....what a ride! She was an answer to a prayer. I never would have planned or intented for my parent duties to be so late in life or my kids so far apart but you gotta just take what is handed you. I'm blessed for the priviledge of being their Mom...even though sometimes I get so frustrated with them...I often get caught saying "wish I woulda stuck with dogs!" That was a joke..hope you got that! Its amazing how much I DONT remember about school. If you asked me what teachers I had and for what I dont think I can remember much. I do remember having Coach Drews for some type of class but fighting sleep in it all the time....as well as Mr. Knipschield for Drivers Ed. The rest is a blur...I wanted it over so badly. My first crush/love was a boy that was from the class prior to ours (1977) -- Forrest Boe. Funny thing happened about him. When I returned to Rochester in 1984 after living in Indiana...My Mom got a phone call from him, wanting to know my phone # as he swore he saw me walking down the street in front of SMH that day...well he did see me and little did he know that I was actually living there as I had just moved back. We dated for a while - now how fun was that!???? Date someone when you are in your 20s that you just had a HUGE puppy love for when you were a teen? BUT.... he was still kinda hung up on a girl that he was on the rebound from... and he went back to her... so guess I was outta the picture...but I found out what an awesome kisser he turned out to be ! :) - Hmmm Men! Sure wish I had that story to do over! I'm happy now and that is all that matters....just wish it wouldnt have taken me so long to get there. My husband and I just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. In 10 years, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by staying hitched to Ricky....he always says I only married him as he is my retirement policy. (he's full of it!). I did marry a guy close to 10 years younger than me though....does that count?????. I have never gone to any of the previous class reunions so I'm hoping that there is at least another one so I can attend. The first one I didnt want to go as I was embarrased about being divorced already (5 yr)...then at the 10....(same thing - diff guy)... the rest are a blur...either not around at the time - or forgotten??? Whether we were friends back then or not...I'd love to chat, reconnect, get to know - anything with you. Life is short...and well, things look alot different now than when we were in high school!
