Tori's Story

Where to begin to tell you what I've been up to since Wilson days? Rogers' days? After Rogers, I went to OSU and after being on the 5-year plan and taking a year off to do a Public Relations internship with a company called Public Relations International, Inc., in Tulsa, I finally finished at OSU with a degree in Journalism (Public Relations), but have only had a small opportunity to use that knowledge while working for a non-profit organization in Fort Worth, TX. Oops, I'm getting ahead of myself, let me get back on track. After graduation from OSU in May 1984, I married my Jr. High boyfriend, Jerry Scott in September 1984. I moved to Lewisville, TX on my wedding day to join him in our new home. We have been in Texas ever since. We moved to Fort Worth, TX three years later, where our son, Jordan was born in 1989. That's when I was an assistant PR director for the non-profit organization, NAWIC [National Association for Women in Construction]. We bought our first home there, then 1 year to the date of our closing, Jerry got a job offer to move to Houston, TX in December 1989. I went kicking and screaming since I had fallen in love with my new home and Fort Worth. Anyway, here we are still in Houston, 18 years later. Our daughter Caithn was born in Nassau Bay, TX ( suburb of Clear Lake/Houston) in 1991. I was able to get a Technical Editing job with a small subcontractor to NASA the year we moved to Houston and, other than contract changes and company changes, I have been doing the same job/work all these years. During my full time employment and Jerry's climb to the Corporate position he now holds with Sears Holdings company, I have been a chauffeur to/from my children's little catholic school in a neighboring town, as well as their cub scout, daisy, boy scout, brownie, girl scout meeting; gymnastics p...Expand for more
ractices, baseball and soccer practices, cheerleading practices, football practices, swimming practices, and any and all activities they happened to have planned for me. Jordan graduated from high school in 2007 and went to Phoenix, AZ last fall to pursue certifications in motorcycle mechanics; sport bikes, not Harley's!! Since he and Jerry are avid bike racers, Jordan thought being able to work on their bikes would be a plus. This tour of Phoenix is a temporary fix to not having a formal plan after H.S. graduation. Once this tour runs its course, he will be back home to complete his college education. Caithn, who is a senior this year is writing her college essays and filling out her college applications as we speak. She, unlike her brother, has a plan. She would like to be a Dietician with a minor in Culinary arts. Texas Tech, Texas State, Texas A&M, and Stephen F. Austin are her current application choices. It has been a full and rewarding experience to raise my children to be the confident and independent people they are. I have spent the past 20 years of our marriage concentrating on this very important and loving task. They both are great kids and we are extremely proud of the young adults that they have become. Next year, Jerry and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary touring Massachusetts and the Fall foliage kicking off the beginning of our empty nester years. We had a slight setback this year, when the Dr. found cancer in Jerry's tonsil, which required surgery to remove both tonsils and a grueling 6 weeks of daily radiation. He has recovered, but is still a little weak and thin. He has always been athletic and health conscience so that has been a tremendous help in his recovery. His prognosis is very positive. We have very much to be thankful for and much to look forward to.
