Toyia's Story
Life
Not much has changed since high school. Well, that's not entirely true. I've been in school ever since high school, finally finished. That will be discussed in another section. I left Oxnard right after high school, relocating to the San Fernando Valley, then Fresno, then Chicago, and recently back to California. I am still not married and I do not have children, but I am in a committed relationship. Now that my life in settling down, perhaps I can now get married.
School
What I remember most about high school is the drama club and the friends that I've made. Throughout the years, I have maintained regular contact with one of these friends: Tino. He is still very much my best friend as he was in high school. I hear from others once in awhile, and I am glad to hear that they are doing well. My biggest crushes?? Wow! I usually liked those who never looked at me like Rani. Remember him? I bet he still looks like a Greek God. I really can't remember anyone else.
College
Like I said earlier, I've been in school since 18. I went to Cal State Northridge where I started off as a Theatre major. Many cast parties there. I remained a good girl and eventually added Psychology as a second major. ...Expand for more
After graduating from CSUN in 2000, I went to grad school in Fresno for Psychology. I got my Master's in Psychology in 2002 and my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2006. Since that required lots of studying, I regret to say that there weren't many "fun and crazy" times in college. I made great friends.
Workplace
Okay, so my first job was at Carl's Jr while a freshman in college. That lasted about one month until I quit. I worked several years as a receptionist and a house manager for thr Performing Arts Center while in undergrad. I had several other jobs like Barnes & Noble and Target before getting into my field. I landed my first job in a group home while at undergrad and have worked in approx. 8-9 group homes/residential settings since. I have worked in the capacity as a childcare worker, social worker and therapist in these facilities. Now, I am a Staff Psychologist for the State of California. Since my degree is in forensics, I tend to work with offenders. I have worked in prisons and treatment facilities, mostly working with sex offenders, etc. If I can manage to lose weight, I would really LOVE to pursue the same career in the FBI. I only have a few years left before I age out. Wish me luck.
