Tracey Schlenkrich:

CLASS OF 1984
Calgary, AB

Tracey's Story

There is life after high school, as Hall and Oates sang in one of their songs. Most of us look back on those days with a mixture of feelings- hopefully most of us have grown up and learned who we really are, and do realize that high school was only 3 years long. It seemed like it was a lot longer, and, oh so important. In a way, though, it did impact us probably more than any other time of our life. I was always kind of on the fringe of things b/c my parents were very religious. That was really hard, but I think that it taught me a lot, and probably protected me from a lot, too. I worked as a pharmacy technician for close to 22 years, while raising my son and being active within my religious community. My 25th wedding anniversary is coming up in November, and in some ways the time has flown by, but in other ways it seems like another lifetime ago to think of my life in school. I have to say that I have thought about some of my schoolmates over the years and wondered where they are now? If you wondered about me- I realized my dream of moving to the west coast in '04, and I would say that I am successful, but probably not in terms most people would think of. Money and prestige has never been important to me. I wanted a healthy family, and a life filled with friends, which I have. I also wanted to do good to others, which I accomplish through volunteer work, and I have also wanted to do something to ease the suffering of unfortunate animals that suffer in one way or another at ...Expand for more
man's hand. I have been fortunate to be involved with the rehabilitation of Wild Animals that have been either orphaned or injured, and have also been involved in a few rescues of domestic animals that have been neglected or dumped by unfeeling individuals. I actually was able to do a TV interview on one of the stations here in regards to that. My aim in life in this regard is to educate people about their responsibilities and obligations to the lesser creatures in this world. I have only one small voice, but this is how I choose to use it. I currently don't work outside the home. Pharmacy work is more stressful than you might believe, and although I loved it all the years I did it, when I moved to BC I decided I didn't have the desire to stay in it. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness in 1993, and maintaining a 9-5 job has become impossible. I'm self employed now, and what I do is involved with gourmet foods, but I also have a spa business on the side. I work at it on my own time and have been satisfied with my success in it. So I'm really curious about everyone from the class of '84, but particularly those ones I went to school with all the way through elementary at Capitol Hill, and Branton Junior High. I have decided to be a member of Classmates.com for only 3 months, so I will be checking daily to see if there are any new ones who have signed up. I won't be attending any reunions b/c I don't live in Calgary anymore, but I hope to hear all about it through the website!
