Kenneth's Story
KEN THE B------
(To the tune of The Ballad of Alfred Packer)
Back in nineteen forty six at the end of World War Two
A boy and girl fell in love and did what lovers do
The girl, she had a baby. The boy did disappear'
And the baby was adopted in December of that year.
Mt name is Ken the B------, I was born in Abilene
A little town in Texas, prettiest town you've ever seen
(I stole that line)
I never knew my momma and I never knew my dad
The family that adopted me were the only kin I had
I was raised up strict and proper, it's a fact I won't deny
Mother beat me with a hairbrush if sh caught me in a lie
Father had a razor strop on which he did rely
And I never knew I was adopted till both of them did die
My brother was an only child from the day that he was born
I was sent away to camp, my security was shorn
When I came home they all had moved to another place and town
They even gave my dog away and said that he had d...Expand for more
rowned
We never lived in one place long enough to settle down
Every other year or two we moved to another town
Everything I ever had seemed like someone's hand me down
And I never knew I was adopted till my folks were dead and gone
Some people work hard all their lives to be all they can be (I stole that line too)
And others never get a break and live in poverty
But all of them they know their names, they know their family tree
But Ken the B is not allowed to know his ancestry
My name is Ken the B------, I was born in Abilene
I drive a Porsche Spyder like the one that killed James Dean
I never knew my momma and I never knew my dad
The family that adopted me were the only folks I had
I finally got my documents and the name of my birth mom
I thought that I had finally found an ending for this poem
Instead I found a horrid truth that would haunt me till I die
The names of my birth parents was just another pack of lies
