Travis's Story

I started school in Manhattan in second grade. I remember Lon Huckert was assigned to be my buddy. Lon was one of the coolest cats in town and I'm sure he still is! I remember our second grade teacher was so hot but I can't for the life of me remember her name. Miss Ross I think? Anyway, third grade was hell because Mrs Dyke didn't like me. I ripped her wig off one day and that was a big mistake! Fourth grade and fifth were kind of a blurr but I know I always had a crush on either Brenda or Kerry. Jeff Willson and I would keep switching back an forth between them. Good times. My first kiss was with Brenda (no tongue in third grade though)! Sixth grade was when they split our class up and we were in the basement of the high school. Scarry times for a little sixth grader. I remember how Andy Douma and Kevin Vanderby would get into so much trouble with the other teacher, can't remember his name since I was in Mr Henderson's class. Again, good times! Junior high was the typical Junior high with the exception I moved away for about a year to Arizona and then dad decided to move us back. I remember the summers more than anything during those two years but do you remember that one teacher, seventh or eighth grade history, real tall with the butch haircut and he would eat his fingernails while he was teaching. Junior high was also the time that Angela and Trish came to Manhattan. Two hotties with brains. Don't know how Angela and I worked out but we did, for a few years even. I would sneak out at night and ride my bike 7 miles in the dark to her house in Manhattan Christian then back again since her mom worked nights. High school was the best with the exception of loosing mom to cancer, but it was very cool that the school put black bands on our basketball jerseys that year to remember her. Football, the girls, hanging out and getting in trouble with John Hartnek is a good summary of high school! Also, If anyone knows where to find David Lackey, let me know, I owe him an ass beating and now I'm big enough to administer it to him! Life is good. It's been quite an adventure so far! Lets see, after high school I went into the Navy. Boot camp with Rob Tharp...Expand for more
and Nuclear school with him as well, then we went different directions and I haven't talked to him since. Weird how that works. Boot camp was a really cool time with the exception of getting a "dear John" letter from Angela. I mean what the hell was that all about Brooksy? Anyway, I spent four years on a submarine and didn't really like that to much, although looking back it was pretty cool! I actually went AWOL for a few months but that's a whole different story which is pretty damn funny. It all worked out though. After the Navy I then found myself working in Wyoming in the same town as Mike Huffield for a couple years. I'm not to sure how I ended up there, but in life you take a left when you should have taken a right and it takes awhile before you start asking for directions again. Same thing happened with Mike as did with Rob, I haven't talk with him since either. Well after I married this total b**ch (lasted two years), I got back on track, moved the heck out of Wyoming and started working for Baker Hughes as a controls engineer. This job traveled me all over South America, off-shore California, Alaska and Texas. Coolest job ever! I designed and installed systems to automate off-shore and remote oil producing wells. This job got me started in the automation world and now I work for an industrial computer manufacture which is based out of Taiwan. Not nearly as much fun to travel over there as it was to travel to South America. I currently live in Southern California with my wife Karma, we got married in Mexico in 2005 (Awesome time with friends and family and tequila!) I also run a small surf company called Pura Vida surf and sport and I spend a lot of time with my two new twin nephews (lisa's boys) and my niece (Erin's Girl). It's pretty cool that both my sisters and I live in San Diego. I've met a lot of cool people along the way and have a lot of new friends but my classmates in Manhattan were some of the coolest! I just which we could have won more football games and stayed in touch. If any of you are ever in San Diego, look me up, we'll have a great time. Remember, Life's way to short to not make the most of everything, so live it up!
