Travis's Story

Life After high school, I plunged head first into college at KU. After racking up an impressive amount of debt coupled with less than impressive grades, I decided to become a working stiff for a bit until I could better assess my committment to academics. Saw article in the want ads for air traffic controllers. Thought that sounded interesting, and after passing their entrance exam and academy was placed at the Kansas City Center in Olathe where I worked for three years. Had some difficulty with the radar portion of the job, but they suggested a less complex tower facility in California. So, I loaded up the truck and I moved to Bever...um...OK, to Chino! Yes, right across from the State Pen! Chino was actually alot of fun to work, despite being surrounded by dairy cattle! The saying was, "To find Chino, follow the smell!" I worked at Chino (I lived in Brea) for seven years. During that time I met my wife, Katinka. After a grand total of three weeks, we eloped in Las Vegas. We'll be celebrating our 9th anniversary this September 7th. Katinka had a daughter, Zerlina, who was 8 at the time, so I became a dad and husband in no time flat! Their last name was Clements, so when we got married, we changed our last name to Clementsmith. So, if you've been looking for me (and I know you have), I have been incognito with the new last name! I took a promotion to the Southern California Radar Approach Control, the busiest radar facility in the ...Expand for more
world (I just love saying that). I've worked in two different airspaces, first San Diego and now Burbank (they're all located in the same building). We now have the first natural born Clementsmith, Xandre (Zan-der), who is a bright seven year old who enjoys chess, golf, and webkinz (parents should know what that is). Zerlina is a senior this year (07-08), and is a D&D role playing geek like her dad! Her favorite subject are biological sciences though her best subject is literature. We currently live in Murrieta, which is about an hour north of San Diego and an hour east of Orange County, or as we like to say, "Next to everything, close to nothing." I commute to San Diego for work. Temecula is a city that is right next to us, we actually almost live right on the border between the two cities. This is Southern California wine country, and we have definitely become part of the dreaded "wine and cheese" community. We have a large Indian Casino nearby and lots of golf courses, so its not totally devoid of things to do. When I'm not keeping airplanes from bumping into each other, I'm rather active online, especially discussing philosophical, religious and spirituality issues, I find the subjects fascinating. Personally, I consider myself a Deist, so don't worry, no evangelizing from me! Otherwise, its yardwork, kid's activites, or TIVO, yeah TIVO! You know, the great American Dream (which I now think means if you have a big screen TV or not)!
